Yes it has external harddrive function, but to use this, you have to have a peice of software installed on the computer called "taxi" or something. so if i wanted to move some files from my computer to yours, i'd have to install taxi on mine, put the files on the karma, go to your place, install taxi on yours, transfer the files.

this is somewhat of a pain, because it means you have to carry the taxi CD with you if you want to use the handdrive feature.. which means you wont randomly be at a friends house, see some files you want, and transfer them (unless you alwys plan on having the cd with you)

buy a rio karma. better sound quality (remotely), better battery life ("15 hours"), plays more formats (ogg, flac). much cheaper (can get em for $230 pretty easily)

on the downside, they currently have no remote and cant work as a USB harddrive without the use of additional software. fortunately, rio are constantly updating the player with new features, and are in the process of making it work as a usb harddrive.

Minidiscs are alright (i own a sony N10 [top model]). It depends what you like though. They do have great battery life, but this is at the expensive of the amp.. so thanks to their weak amps, the sound quality isn't great. they're really good for the average joe, who (shock horror) uses the stock earbuds, and is happy with things like 128kbps mp3.. but as a music fan the weak amp annoys me (which is why i'm buying a karma, and have just built a portable amp)

Whats the point of drag racing a VIPER? Its a track car. Meant for road courses. Not drag racing. Straight line speed is about as useless in determining a car's overall performance as autocross. You want a real test of performace? Go to a track. And make sure it has more than just left turns.

Viper was the fastest stock production car in the 1/4 mile for a long time (might still be). Aditionally, his SER would probably be able to take on the viper around a track too, since it's lighter (better cornering), and has better acceleration (since he can beat it in a drag). He would have to put some money into brakes and suspention and maybe body stiffening... but it'd still be cheaper by a long shot

I have trouble understanding how companies caring about profits is bad. They have their shareholder owners in mind. If you want to be someone that companies care about, call your broker and buy a piece of the company.

Because for society to best function, the needs of the general public should be met above the needs of a few people who are fortunate enough to have the money to buy a peice of a company. And because this has more levels then just money. How about a company which cares about your privacy above their profits? that would be nice wouldn't it. but the companies dont even care about their shareholders when it comes to that. For relatively small quantities of aerogel the cost is about $1.00 per cubic centimeter for one liter.

i said puchasing power, not exchange rate. there's a big difference. the currency is at a higher numerical value ("1.80 usd"), but things cost more (once exchange rate is applie) then they would in america. so if you're in england, and you have 1 pound, you could buy 1.15 times as much "stuff" then if you had 1 USD in america.

  21. Re:Seems to reflect CD pricing bias on Exchange Rates Play With Online Music Prices · · Score: 3, Insightful
i dont think that it's always fair to use exchange rates for things like CDs and online music.

it's the purchasing power of the currency that matters. although a pound may be worth more than a dollar when it's exchanged, people in england get paid in pounds, and purchase everything in pounds. it doesn't matter (directly) to them how many USD their pound is worth. they only care about what they can buy in england with their pound

i think a pound has the purchasing power of about 1.15 USD or so. that means, that with 1 pound, you should be expected to be able to buy about 1.15 times as much stuff then if you had 1 USD. Thus, in england they should only have to pay ~0.86 pounds per song (0.99/1.15).

    that would be fair
