    The sad thing is, they're sueing the same people that most sci-di channel fans love (or love to hate.) NASA, and the space program.

    Taking money from NASA for a lawsuit like this would be sad, and although it's not some civil suit with a huge direct settlement cost, etc., the cost in time, lawyers, paperwork, etc. adds up quickly, especially for a .gov group like NASA

    Why doesn't the sci-fi channel take the $ that they would have used to sue them, and give it to them for better safety, more research, education, or something like that. Maybe uncovering an "alien landing coverup" is more important that real science to them?

    I can't recall a single massive failure at a japanese plant, unlike some other countries (US included.)

    Is there really a history of problems there? Problems that actually lead to an emergency?

    DDS4 tapes are around $10/40GB (compressed). AIT is $50 for 100/260GB

    I haven't seen too many 200GB hard drives for $50.

    True, it's catching up quickly, but it's not quite there.

    Because $ per MB, tape is way ahead still, is significantly smaller, and hold up to transportation and movement better.

    As far as shelf-life goes, that's a good question. will a tape sitting on a shelf fare better than a hard drive after 10 years? I don' t know.

    No, the quality is no better than the CD. The quality is better than if they had STARTED with the CD, but an AAC file ripped from the souce DATs is NOT going to be higher quality than an uncompressed CD made from them.

    Good design, however, is in short suply. Any jackass with a copy of photoshop and a digital camera thinks that they're a pro, and the number of pretentious wannabe designers and "artists" that the internet has spawned theatens to ruin the world... OK, maybe not ruin the world, but it sucks.

    Seriously though. Has the Crusoe any impact at all? I can't think of a single device that anyone I know has bought, or wants to buy, that uses one. This chip will likely be the same. Also, Linus left Transmeta a few months back.

    That's information they already have. Do you think they're going to bug a website to get an IP for a customer they already have a record of? Comcast has my phone number, IP address, real address, hell... even my credit card!

    And anyone that things they would call them or do anything else in some bizarre form of retribution for being on the DNC list is just... well... a nutball.

    Of course there will be breaks. As far as editing them together, don't forget that the second movie opens with quite a few scenes from the first movie, and it would be quite a lot of work (not so much that it would be impossible, but quite a bit) to re-edit the whole gandolf/ balrog fight and make it seamless with the first one... meaning that it's not going to be re-edited.

    Maybe some day there will be a fan edit of the whole trilogy into one 9 hour tome.

    I know you're just joking around, but I don't see how this related to spam in any way, in fact, I don't see how it related to the DNC list, they can't gather any data from me loading that image that points to me as Tom Smith, (206) 555 -1486, tsmith@foo.com. So who cares, really?

    I'm not arguing that they were wrong, I think it was an obvious misuse of their power. But I'm also not surprised.

    When you have a company in that position... with the ability to easily use a position for an obvious gain, and with a grey area of what's right and wrong (grey to them, not to us.) I think that it's very likely they will try to get as much out of their investment into the .com and .net domains as possible, and push the envelope at every turn. Thankfully they're being met with some resistance.

    I'm sure trying this was seen as a measured risk for them, and now it's not paying off, much to their displeasure.
