Not saying it can't get you a talking to by some mean-looking SS and FBI agents. By now, I'm pretty sure the NSA knows I'm not actually going to hurt anyone. If they could send me a backup so I can restore some lost e-mails I'd appreciate it though.
$79.99 on VMWare's site. Compared to a lot of packages I've had to buy in the past it's pretty damn cheap. Take a look at VMWare ESXi licenses some time. If $79.99 is too expensive, why are you buying a $3000 boutique laptop? Small price to pay for pretty much the best virtualization environment in existence.
You can always use VirtualBox. VMWare is well worth the money though. Parallels is about the same price but FOSS OS support is a little weaker IIRC.
There's also this bay I've heard about, you might try there if you drained your bank account after the mac purchase.

I would spend the couple bucks on VMWare Fusion. VirtualBox under OSX works OK but VMWare Fusion seems to perform better, integrates nicer and seems to be more feature-complete and less buggy on the Mac side. I would also not stick with the 256GB SSD. You might want to order it with a bigger one or find a decent third party one if you are confident tearing apart a laptop.
Modern X11 and systemd are certainly not very UNIXy either. Under the hood on a Mac you have a very complete FreeBSD userland and I'll take BSD over GNU any day of the week. You can even switch to using 'init' and the rc.d scripts if you really want to. Enabling root is also quite easy. Performance tuning is also not very hard but also not very necessary in most cases. In my experience things are much snappier than any out of the box Windows install.
The Mac GUI is very much an evolution of the Display Postscript based NeXT GUI environment. Sun also had something similar in the old days called NeWS.
And most REAL UNIX environments were proprietary for decades. Just because you're used to open source doesn't mean open source was and is the only game in town.

While I'm not comfortable with them hacking US organizations, I'm not comfortable with the fact we've been hacking Russian systems for ages and influencing politics in their puppet states either. In the end, I'm more inclined to thank the Russians and spend all the money and effort to remove Clinton than to engage in butt-hurt sabre rattling over this.
If there weren't disgusting things committed in the first place, there would be nothing for them to attempt to influence an election with. I'm far more concerned about Clinton's BS than the fact the Russians exposed it.

Or use a VM until the driver support is there. You may be able to set up a cross-compile environment of some sort too.
