to an idealist, especially the type of idealist employed at google pre-IPO, no amount of money would belay their concerns. this happens with any growing company though. the early employees rightfully miss the earlier environment. growth just makes everything seem blah-y and it's extremely difficult to maintain the same atmosphere as the early days.
and even then, peoples perceptions of the "early days" are more often than not incorrect. i once heard it called happy sappy delusion syndrome, and the same thing happens to old video games you used to play when you were a kid.
but getting back on track, regarding the money issue.. personally, i think it's a bit short sighted to say that any amount of money would placate me from my other concerns.
i work for a software company that develops software for windows and the gui is tuned to people who only use the keyboard... and tabbing isn't necessary.
soo, windows software doesn't have to be that way; just bad windows software does.
im not sure i would say "fear" more than it presents another opportunity to generate a new revenue stream, even though they've tried it in the past with every format change or new delivery method that's come about...
the difference between than and now is that our government representatives are, more than ever, reliant upon campaign contributions, what with the increased need for exposure which costs $$$, and seemingly more corruptable. therefore, they are more likely to enact legislation that goes against the public interest and towards private interest where before they might have stuck up for the citizenry.

they are too divorced from the technical aspects of the computer to really know what might be wrong, so instead they start some sort of social movement/protest against whatever the problem is perceived to be.
it's alot easier to bang pots and pans around and scream real loud than it is to diagnose the problem, i suppose.

listen, folks. Godaddy does domain registrations for like 6 dollars a year. bitching about the service/support is like complaining that walmart doesnt employ people to carry groceries out to your car.
The owner of godaddy seems like a real standup guy. i cant remember when it was, but he sent out a rather impassioned plea regarding some change in policy that would adversely affect customer privacy.
i don't know. this just seems like an attack mob organized over something as simple as a bug that can be fixed.
just back off, god. mob mentality is so retarded on the internet. especially from you minority zealots. "BUT MY 0.25% of the market share browser doesn't work flawlessly, waaaaaaah"
please./waits to be modded down as a troll for posting this on slashdot.
i would much rather have the united states in control than some beurocratic UN organization that's been proven it has members that can be bought.
granted, the US can be bought, too, but usually the less people there are involved in controlling/managing something, the better off everything is.//liberterian
"After 1992 and until the disastrous 5300, Apple was the leading notebook maker."
Man this guy is really good at confusing things. He sounds like a political writer. It would have been easier to say "For 2 years, 1993 and 1994, until the Apple Powerbook 5300 was released, Apple was the leading seller of portable computers"
2 years? 2 years. Seriously. I had to do research to find that the powerbook 5300 was released in 1995. Taken at face value, without knowing what the 5300 is, someone could interpret Apple's position to actually have been "dominant", where it wasn't.
Gosh. 1992. Man. The internet was barely even around! that's like stonage.
Yeah, that's what I gathered too. Their point of view doesn't make any sense to me, though. If I hear music I like, i get more excited and more likely to buy it if it's cheaper. like a $8.99 CD is way more appealing to me than a $13 CD for instance.
With services like Pandora becoming available, it becomes way easier to be inroduced to acts and artists you don't know, but still really would like. The control of delivery and marketing is slowly eroding, and this should bring the peaks and valleys closer together. i.e. acts considered "less" popular will get more exposure, and acts considered "more" popular will get less, if only because people learn about music different now that radio is being eroded.
atleast, that is the future i would like to see. who knows what's going to happen. Pandora is a great start. I hope it does not lose momentum or run into RIAA roadblocks.
i too, being a michagamaniac, am very proud of our bridge. it doesn't seem to get the credit that is due to it. most likely this is because the bridge is in a very much "out of the way" place. i mean, you really do have to take a trip to see it, but it's got to be near the top of the list of "cool engineering tourist destinations"
i love it and used to walk it on labor day every year with my parents when i was younger and lived up up north. im a troll, so not that far up north, but still the mighty mac is a fine span to be proud of.
its total length still surpasses any suspension bridge i think, but i guess in engineering circles it is the main span that "counts". it's pretty incredible how long it held all the records; it was built in the 50s.
what kind of out of date rant is this? my 350D has no such problem of "delay", sounds more like the action of a point and shoot style consumer camera more than a digital SLR, or maybe based on early experience with the very first DSLR's
but, yea... i like digital photography because it's allowed me an improved learning curve. ive learned things with my digital that would've taken me years with film and probably saved me alot of time/money/effort in developing costs.

That pretty much sums up our house of represenatives.
(me thinks its just an underlying meme of the human condition)
I think Taco doesn't like it because it hits too close to home. I myself loved it :D

the acronym needs an abbreviation.
:)
or
the acronym needs an acronym.
sorry
totally in agreement here, just sayin what the patent office says :)
the quote sure does make the corollary between a patent portfolio and mafia-like activity an easy one.
president of NTP says: "Hey, yous want some insurance against these hooligans? im sure it would be good for your business... if you know what i mean."

breathing would be covered under prior art provisions in patent law. :)
yeah that was a short sighted statement, i'll concede the point.
apple users do.

i saw that too, but i think it's most likely an error by the transcriber rather than the original correspondance.

what you say is correct, but none of the canon models affected are in their professional line of cameras, i.e. the 20D or the 350D.
the ones affected are the powershot line, which are intended for the lower end, high quality consumer use cameras.
this post is a joke right? that's science fiction......
