Arrogance and hubris? Absolutely not. The fact of the matter remains none of the people writing these things have any idea how they're doing it either. They're using code provided to them or exemplified to them by other people and then adding their nonsense to it. Its the whole reason so much of this stuff is so easily detected. Yes they are stupid people. Stupid and immoral. We're (the world in general) unbelievably lucky at this point that these trojans aren't written by people with a significant amount of skill because they'd be a whole lot harder to find/fix/repair.
What you're failing to notice, however, is that the proliferation of these virii and trojans would be slowed by the fact that the majority of bugs and spyware and crap out there now is obviously written by people without much talent. Actually make it difficult for them to break into things, and you certainly won't see the issue eradicated, but you will see it go down. Significantly.
It makes me sad that these posts won't go anywhere. They should, but some jerkoff in Apple's marketing department is going, "Oh well, see ya. We'll get the next kid who likes SHINY WHITE PLASTIC!"

And this is what infuriates me and I've been on about since I started boycotting the RIAA and MPAA back in '01 when they started suing their customers: those of us that want to watch our content unhindered will continue to use Linux and find our way around the lame-assed DRM protection to get the same rights as anyone else that WEVE FUCKING PAID FOR, and all of the regular Joes will continue to get fucked in the ass good and hard, and the idiots in suits haven't clued into this yet.
And at this point, if they still haven't clued in, I'm afraid they never will.
Yup. The crackers will find out a way past it, the normal users will feel hindered and annoyed by it, and the very people you were trying to stop will be completely unaffected and find a way to pirate it anyway.
You're justifying the $200 price tag with the free "$35/movie" price tag, which is an arbitrary inflated value of the movies that we shouldn't be paying in the first place.
1000mph? Pssh. That's nothing. Have you driven on Highway 401 in Toronto at 2am on a Sunday? You'll get highbeamed and honked at for anything less than 750 in the right lane.
I've run my servers on RAID 1 and my important shit is on RAID 1 now. Simplistic, but I've had exactly 4 harddrive failures with this set up, and every time, I was able to replace the failing drive, and rebuild the mirror, and no data was lost.
I keep a backup encrypted off-site aswell, but I have depended on the RAID to protect my data, and it's never failed me yet.
If you could just go ahead and convert all of those windows servers containing all of our business value into linux, that'd be great, mmmmk?
Wouldn't it be cheaper for them to just stop upgrading to the latest and greatest and stick with what they've already got?
(I am a linux fan and don't even run windows, it just seems like it'd be more money and less cost effective to start switching over just leaving things alone).
Aside from the obvious fact that Scientology is a cult, I really wish they'd stop referring to fucking packet kiddies as 'hackers'. Most of them (and I'll bet this kid is no different) don't even fall in line with the definition of cracker or hacker. They're just children with buttons.
That's the real beauty of it -- these idiots in suits don't seem to realise that when they put idiotic DRM on their discs, the pirates will get what they want DRM free, and the PAYING CUSTOMERS are the ones getting fucked.
I want to play Blu-Ray discs on my HTPC (as I've eluded to in another post.)
They'd all be legal, purchased, and viewed within reasonable means, but because I run Linux, no dice.
I look forward to the day when someone with a suit on pulls their head out of their ass and does something right.
It's definitely what keeps me away -- I've built myself a nice Linux based HTPC, and it's still unbelievably difficult (if not impossible) to play Blu-ray. As such, I have zero intentions of buying any high def flicks.

You and I, mr headline writer, obviously have a very different definition of 'groove'.
Congratulations, moderator, you're an idiot.

Yes.
.. you were kidding, right?
Holy crap. I use VIM exclusively and have for years, and I had no idea = existed. I've been hammering > and repeatedly for some time.
Thank you so very much.
So the only aggression I have is this unexplainable urge to jump on people's heads and punch bricks.
Woosh. SOMEbody hit a nerve.

I'm moderately sure anyone still watching MTV is at more of a risk of shitting themselves than working a computer.
Who are versed in this sort of thing and don't agree with it can simply write the libraries and server software to refuse to acknowledge them.
The average windows user won't know what's up, but those of us who run the DNS servers will.

So I guess I'm crazy.

After all, the RIAA simply suggests you drop out of school to pay your fine.
So in this case, I'm sure they'll suggest she not go to post-secondary school and spends her school savings to pay them.
This is why I haven't bought an RIAA registered CD since 2001, and won't. Douchebags.
http://www.riaaradar.com/ ftw.
Steve Hawking ain't got nothing on me; I must be a genius!
(You have to appreciate me calling myself a genius in the same sentence that has the word "ain't", and a double negative.)
Yea, despite having re-read it with preview, I still didn't notice until AFTER I hit the submit button.
I don't have an excuse; I don't know why I did it.
Ryoji Chubachi? Is that you?
