I'll tell my boss that we need to get to work re-writing 90% of what our department has done in the last 5 years as quickly as possible in java. PHP can do anything I need it to do, as besides the occasional security bugs (and this one doesn't seem to effect me), it works great.
It's the programmer that makes the program, not the language.
People like myself, who buy lots of video games and have always bought their products are apparently not their target market.
Fine with me. I'm sick of all this DRM stuff. I'll just have to find a more meaningful use of my money then buying video games.
That's their right, so I won't complain about it anymore. I just wanted to let them know that I was going to buy diablo 3. I don't like the direction their company is headed, I won't be buying their products.
How do you pick from fink, macports, or homebrew? I could never use one because I can't seem to figure out which of the 3 competing projects is the better choice.

Debt Deal Reached

I'm part of a growing trend called of people who are getting 100% of debt and going "debt free". Soon I will have no debt (relatively speaking) and will not be using a credit card or buying anything on credit ever again.
Living within your means sucks, but so does paying for years on a purchase that you could have saved up for in a manner of months.
It's interesting, it seems the author once to monazite the product. While that's his right and I wish him luck, I'm not paying for something that is free on every other OS I use.
I use that as a measuring rod of who I should talk to in real life. If they are hounding me about my facebook page, then I probably don't need to be talking to them anyway. I have lost a few friends because of facebook and twitter, and I feel better off for it.
Does it matter if the code is secure? Does it matter if you can fix it if dreamweaver destroys your project?
I partner with a great designer with awesome css skills. I write the backend and he works on the 'pretty'. I get a html template that fits into codeigniter and then put it all together with a bit of glue. Unfortunately as we play more with drupal it becomes apparent that my skills are no longer required for anything more then writing a custom plugin or auditing. So to that end, I'm trying to learn more of his tools of the trade.
I have trouble making pretty graphics and he has trouble grasphing why it is so important to sanitize inputs and not write php sql queries that look like this: "select * from users where id = " . $_GET['username'];
I have made it an imperative on my campus that we have as much cross os support ( and cross browser ) as possible. I can only think of one or two classes on campus (that are not windows it classes) that require windows (and soon each student will have a college supplied virtual desktop. ).
We also make sure all in house systems like webapps work on all major browser (ie7+, chrome, firefox, opera, safari, elinks, etc)
But apple already has universal apps that know if they are a iphone or ipad and act differently. I'm sure there would be a way for the developer to compensate.
Well there is a difference between my job, which I'm payed to do, and a online forum where I'm trying to squeeze out a message before lunch or my next meeting.
Hired to program. Soon after system admin leaves. Server's need patching, junior admin screws up some compiles, etc so I step in and fix the server environment. Congrats, you are not a system admin (doh). A few months later, network admin is gone as well. New network guy is hired, but sucks at his job and for some reason doesn't get fired (still can't figure that out). I need the SAN to function properly, and I need the network to function properly. Congrats again, you are a network admin.
Now the title outside my office says "Programmer", but I haven't written any programs in at least 2 years. I've wrote a dozen scripts to make my life easier, but mostly I spend my time managing, install, patching, supporting, and planning the network and server infrastructure. Somehow I've also managed not to screw it up and have finally gotten to a point where I think I might be good at this. But I miss my compiler....
I'm curious as well. I always have done a clean install instead of an upgrade when I have upgraded the OS on my macbook pro. It gives me a chance to clean up my mac and to fix the inevitable fragmentation of the drive.
I wasn't planning on upgrading snow leopard. I was planning on doing a fresh install of Lion.
Only their not going to send you a nice letter asking for logs, they are going to break down your door, point a mp5 in your face and throw you on the ground. Then they take your stuff and check it out for as long as they want.
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:
1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by rebuilding our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them as well.
To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports. We are providing the following information for those who wish to consider it: - U.S. residents are entitled under U.S. law to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit bureaus. To order your free credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call toll-free (877) 322-8228.
- We have also provided names and contact information for the three major U.S. credit bureaus below. At no charge, U.S. residents can have these credit bureaus place a "fraud alert" on your file that alerts creditors to take additional steps to verify your identity prior to granting credit in your name. This service can make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name. Note, however, that because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you, it also may delay your ability to obtain credit while the agency verifies your identity. As soon as one credit bureau confirms your fraud alert, the others are notified to place fraud alerts on your file. Should you wish to place a fraud alert, or should you have any questions regarding your credit report, please contact any one of the agencies listed below:

I use google+ and I don't have a facebook account. It is slowly replacing twitter for me. I love it. I have about 50 people in my circles.

Yea, I really should read what the iphone decides I'm trying to say.

The bible also says we shouldn't ever need to masturbate, after all....

textwrangler, textmate (one of my favorites) or for more of a "ide" coda.
I tend to use textmate and cyberduck when doing web work. Most of our stuff is all drupal now so I don't get to write much code anymore.
Except all those cars are bought with tax payer money.

I wrote that without proof reading. I apologize.

I won't use it because I'm not getting a discount to do the work myself.
Honestly, I'd like an option to not have a DVD drive at all. I don't use it, and if I did need one, I have a USB burner.

Of course I'm sure your ISP has a TOS that states you can't be a service provider and you are buying service for personal use only.
