  1. Re:not enough data : bad statistics on Toyota Accelerator Data Skewed Toward Elderly · · Score: 1

How can we talk about the statistics of people having accidents without talking about the statistics of people driving the car in the first place?
How many young people buy a Toyota vs old people? Toyota has typically been cheap and easy to maintain and repair. This is something typically elder people value much more than young people who rather go for something looking good instead. The article also mention the statistics are more skewed against immigrants than Americans, however Toyota is not an American car, and there are other American cars. Immigrants are thus far more likely to using a foreign car than someone born in the country of Ford and GM. The statistics may just as well be representative of the demographics buying Toyota rather than saying anything meaningful about the accidents.

And this is only about the layout. I would be surprised if no windows like theme(s) were included as alternative in the base system - choose it if you want.

And then - who votes in a democracy? As far as for most countries, it is not the people but their representatives - thus if people already voted Ubuntu to be the leading party, they are in power to vote on your behalf until you change party - is that not so? I for one cannot say I see many places where any true democracy exists, only the quasi forms created where representatives votes on our behalf.

I think a large part of the reason for windows outselling Linux is not that people prefer windows but the combinations made with windows often being prefered over the combinations with Linux.

I have been looking for some sub-notebooks for some time, and must say that even though I am 100% for linux, mostly all the offerings I like come with Windows pre-installed. Further, most offerings with Linux preinstalled are systems you cannot really run Windows on at all; example; most of the Linux setups I see only come with SSD drives, no HD. Windows cannot really run well with SSD disks, so you loose options to switch later. I would myself have liked more hybrid options with Linux pre-installed.

I am not so sure this is the fault of Asus. I think it is highly likely the stores I see where I live that either have made 'bad' decisions, or found they can earn more money by selling the versions coming with Windows.

That I am inclined to buy a sub-notebook that comes with Windows installed is simply due to the choices available to me in my area. The machine I now run too came with Windows but has been running Linux since day one, I never even finished the windows setup.

Asus will do a major mistake if they start believing that sales of Windows with the machine indicate they are used with Windows rather than Linux - they are not. I am currently inclined to buy Asus version of the sub notebook due to the major advantage of not needing proprietary drivers with the machines under Linux.

Why should a company develop something new if everyone else can simply copy it and sell it as their own without the cost of the development process?
The same is true for writing books - everyone could simply copy your work and sell it again without the writer getting anything.

The question to what extent it is a promoting development of science and arts. I will argue it should be obvious that too long copyright is worse than none of all.
If you have an near infinite copyright you never need to actually place what you have the right for into an actual offering - it is better to simply make another work and wait for someone to use your idea and sue them for violation. With a 75 years copyright you don't even need to make any of your ideas ever get to market. Wait and sue - invent something more in the meantime.

    So there are two questions.
    1) What is a reasonable time frame for copyright to actually promote science and arts?
    2) Should everything copyright-able, arts and science, have equal many years of copy right protection?
