And before someone chimes in with this little quote from the bottom of the article, I saw it, and my initial rant was an 'in general' rant on the whole voting machine issue, not just about this study.

  2. idiocy on Maryland Plans Code Review for Voting Software · · Score: 1

Yay, lets pour more money down a black hole of voting software that's really not needed at the moment, and leave Maryland's state universities wallowing in underfundedness so they have to continue to raise tuition 2-3 times a year, reducing services to non-existance, and laying off dozens of staff memebers.

Sorry for being slightly offtopic, but it feels good to rant about this. Mid-semester tuition raises because the governor would rather have a fancy voting machine than fund the education of the future.

Although I am surprised that Diebold let SAIC see their software. And I won't be surprised if they discover its utter crap. We use Diebold at the university too, and its very problematic on such simple things as magnetic card swipes. The machines frequently have problems and fail to charge (or mis/double charge). Its a lousy system, but unfortunately I'm not knowledgeable enough in this area to recommend better.

My point for SSBM is that its the only Gamecube game with the lasting value that makes it work me owning one personally, rather than playing a friends (as I did with Metroid Prime in a single weekend).

As for zelda, its ok to disagree. My friends disagree too. I just like the older, darker zelda as a personal preference. Cell shading irks me :)

SSBM was *the* reason I got my own Gamecube. New Zelda was lame, and I beat Metroid Prime on a friends. Only SSBM (and maybe Timesplitters 2) made my decision to get one. Hopefully HAL will make another good one.

Go just a little further south with Verizon and you encounter problems. I just got back from a week in North Carolina, once we crossed from VA into NC my Verizon Wireless connection went to perma-roam. Roaming charges everywhere in the eastern part of the state. Made me severely unhappy, despite good service elsewhere. Lucky I don't visit down there too often, would be expensive.

Considering I barely have the money to keep myself and my family afloat, I don't think I need to be wasting money and fees to get one share of stock in SCO. I'd rather invest in something worthwhile, or just maintain my current lack of investments. I don't see a class action suit paying me anything anyways, esp with one share. Plus that just strikes me as petty greed, almost.

Throwing myself in the way of this mess on the chance to take part in a class action lawsuit just seems immoral. Because I'm not misled about it. I know exactly what is going on.

I was asking this to find out, since I don't have any finiancial stake in SCO (or anything else for that matter), was it valid for me to complain to the SEC.

Also, there are people out there who don't use linux and don't work with linux. I guess this question could apply to educating them as well. I use linux casually for my scripting and webserver, but the rest of my family could care less. And for work...well...I work in a gov't lab as a contractor. I don't care what happens in that scene, I'll get paid hourly either way.

Personally, I can't wait to see SCO get taken to the cleaners. I just hope whomever does it does a nice, thorough job of it. But, I cannot to myself justify complaining to the SEC for this matter. Only if I was directly threatened by SCO, not just under their blanket accusations to the linux world. And even then I'm not sure the SEC would be the proper route for my complaints...

But don't take me as apathetic in this matter, I'm just not convinced the SEC is the right path for taking SCO out. I wish IBM would just step on them, or (pipedream) the linux community would buy them and destroy the management, as has been fantacized here on /. so many times.

I was merely pointing out the fact in earlier posts that others are offended by it, and you do not improve your arguement by using it. In some cases your argument is not improved at all, and in the others it is detrimental to whatever point you make. So why use it?

And you're just lucky you got a tolerant cop. This little thing called politeness can help reduce the severity of fines, points on license, etc. Swearing at them tends to encourage the maximum penalities, and does not improve your situation.

No, but I'm not so sure about the RIAA...

"Second of all, if a clothing store wanted to, it could go to your house, and say "show us the receipt for the shirt you're wearing or we'll take you to court," and if you didn't show them the receipt, they could file a lawsuit."

Or I could tell them to leave my property. The could then contact my lawyer to produce evidence as to why they are invading my privacy. If the RIAA has evidence of someone dloading a file, then they can demand a license. But your store argument makes no sense. Stores cant hunt me down to investigate my possessions out of the blue.

"How are they gaining any rights? Anyone can take anyone to court for anything!"

And if they did so, most of them would be countersued for barratry before long, or at the very least for reimbursement of court and lawyer fees.

"Your lack of the word "fucking" doesn't make your argument any more valid, so please, inject some logic into your sentences or go back to playing Freecell."

How is cursing impotently injecting logic into a sentence? Or making an argument more valid? Seems to me that its more of an emotional injection, which tends to be an antithesis of logic. In addition to adding a level of immaturity to your post. Chill man. Some people just don't care for such words, and they really are not needed.
