I agree 100% with the AC especially the no job market part. I lived here for almost 40 years and I just about have my wife talked into getting the hell out of here.
Actually, according to the article I read, Lucent did offer them $100,000. One of the inventors wanted to accept it and the other one wanted to counter offer for more. So they were offered compensation, now whether that compensation would have been consider fair market value I don't know.
Lincoln Nebraska does not have a lot of high tech jobs. To most of the small businesses here the computer is considered to be one of those new fangled thingies.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I was an auto tech for a ford dealership for almost 10 years and felt the exact same way. I went back to school and got a degree in network admin and now I have been working for a small law firm for the last three years as the IT guy.
I was a Ford mechanic for ten years doing drivability and electrical work before deciding to switch careers. Now I am a the "computer guy" for a small business. As a mechanic family members would always ask me to work on their cars, now not only do they ask me work on their cars they ask me to work on their computers too. I can't win.

You also have to consider that Kerry has a job to go back to where as Gore didn't.
Except for the fact that SP2 only works on Windows xp. What about all the Windows 2000 or windows 98 machines still out there.
