    I'm sick and tired of people saying they're at 50. Some jokers put it into their .sigs. Who gives a damn? Any dumb shit can do it; if you have an IQ above room temperature, it shouldnt take you more than a month of relevant posting.

    And no, burning stuff to a single CD and wiping it so you can play back your MP3s isn't a backup - you've just made the natural disaster issue portable.

    All three cases probably require some degree of civil disobedience for US citizens--in the form of not honoring software patents.

    Sure, I'm down for civil disobedience -- but then again, I'm not a big company. Legitimate businesses are much less likely to use software created with even a little civil disobedience.

    Seriously. When did "admins" turn into such pussies? Using text-based configuration is not so bad, especially when you can put the full power of $EDITOR and perl/sh/etc to use grinding on them to get things done quickly, without fumbling with a mouse for 10 minutes.

    Having a motherboard which boasts of the ability to make me buy new hardware isn't quite what I'm looking for.

    Well, I doubt it's really aimed at people with old peripherals. It's intended for new machines with new everything.

    And you can't really blame them for trying to cut off old technologies... someone had to start doing it, or we'd be using old standards forever. Remember the old, big, round keyboard adaptor? (I dont even remember what it was called.) If manufacturers never said "OK, enoughs enough, PS/2 or the highway from now on" we'd still be stuck with that crap. You got to make sacrifices if you want progress.

    I for one am *extremely* grateful to the developers of high-quality applications that I use for work and play. I don't know what I would use if not for mozilla, but I'm sure it would not be as cool. (No replies about konqueror or Opera. Sorry, but they just don't cut it for me.) It's been a long, painful road, with more than a few bug reports, some patches, and more crashes than I can shake a stick at, but I've had fun. And if the ends justify the means, well then 1.0's delay is justified.

    now if I take those same CDs into work, convert them into MP3s, and let the same people listen to them, now its "pirating"?

    What if you're using your CD in your car, and someone at your work is listening to the same CD's mp3's? You got two people using the same disc, essentially.

    It would be interesting to see how much bandwidth is saved by not sending those two other characters to browsers. I bet it adds up quick. :)

    You're right about 8.3, though. It disgusts me. But this is just the .3. You don't have to stick with the 8 in front, which I can live with.
