What do you expect? What kind of sicko would take a late-model Athlon, a GF4, and assorted other brand new shit, and bring them anywhere near a can of foam, let alone spray the shit all over them? (Probably, a rich sicko with nothing better to do.)
What the fuck, man. Is this what the founding fathers had in mind? Government officials making decisions based solely on who paid them and how much? This fucking sucks.
If public servants truly had the best interests of the people in mind, they would make decisions based on what they thought would help the most -- that's what we vote for them for anyway! They shouldn't be allowed to take a fucking dime from these damn lobbyists.
I believe Mingo's patches are out of date now (or did I read somewhere that they've been taken over by Andrew Morton?) Either way, Andrew's page has current patches:
Come on now, sometimes it's just fun to turn the brain to "be impressed by shiny things" mode and take in summer movies on opening night with a packed, enthusiastic audience, laughing and going nuts. I like serious movies, but there's something to be said for the likes of X-Men, T2, and hell even ID4.
Did these films move me, or make me "feel" something at the end? Probably not, but they were fun to watch.
Hmm.. I was under the impression the only thing journalling was good for was quick recoveries after a system crash/reboot. I didn't know it directly affected filesystem performance...? Maybe I've been hittin the crack pipe too hard.
I went and tried those two patches after reading that report. I must say, I'm impressed. Things like switching between desktops in KDE3 is very snappy, where as before there was a noticable flicker before all the apps on the desktop appeared. And it might be my imagination, but mozilla seems more responsive as well.
I can also play 4 porn AVI's without any problems, where as before I... did I say porn? I meant mp3's...;)
You post something they dont like or that someone complained about?
Nope, just downloaded pr0n... not that much either, and not everyday. I get similar traceroutes from a couple shells I have as well, so I don't think they're blocking me specifically.
Thanks for the tip, but I've tried that too (in fact, they resolve to the same IP). The last line of the traceroute is: 16 so-1-3-0-0.SVCS-RTR1.RES.verizon-gni.net (141.156.255.46) 97.166 ms !A 97.214 ms !A 97.336 ms !A
Where the !A means access to the host is prohibited. (I'm going to have one hell of a time trying to convey this to a tech support moron.)
I haven't been able to connect to my damn ISP's news server for over a week now. They just ignore my complaints. I can't ping news.gte.net from anywhere that I've tried.
I'm dying here, a man can only live off the same porno for so long...
I use it to connect to my desktop when I'm at meetings (for demos, to start off or check on the status of a job, use software I don't have on my laptop, etc)
B) You can be damn sure that Microsoft complained because Sony/PS2 is a direct competitor. It's not like they felt like being good little participants, and complain about all rule violations. I bet if you go back a few years, you'll find other "playable" shits that were at Cebit that *weren't* in Microsoft's disfavor that they did no complaining about. MS, it seems, has learned the lobbying trade very very well, politically and otherwise.
C) What kind of fucking show is this that you can't test out the equipment? Why don't they just handcuff you at the entrance?
People, don't pretend you're cool and not make backups, thinking that nothing will happen if you go screwing with hdparm. I learned the hard way, and now I'll be digging up all my $HOME directory from cryptically named files in lost+found. It should be a fun night.
I have only myself to blame.

Oh man, I'm there. Are the best players in the world really going to be there? I suck terribly, but I used to be half-decent in the SNES days.:)
I don't think you've disproved my claim at all; all you've done is quote market share numbers. I don't care who had how much and when. The fact remains that Microsoft stole the right to choose by bundling IE, claiming it was impossible to remove, and using heavy-handed tactics against OEMs and PC makers to prevent them from installing competing products. You call that competition?
This comment has been duped almost verbatim so many times. I dont even remember when the first occurence was.

o wnloads
e mpt-kernel/v2.4/
http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/schedlat.html#d
As for preempt, there's:
http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/rml/pre
I used preempt-kernel-rml-2.4.18-2.patch, and 2.4.18-rc1-low-latency.patch with kernel 2.4.18.
(I was willing to go all adventurous and throw in the O(1) scheduler too, but that didn't patch without errors so I skipped it.)
Good hacking.
the reality is that the vast majority of people [even some /. readers] spend time away from their computers.
away from... wait, wait, I can do it... my... computer ?!? You mean, like with a wireless keyboard and mouse, right?

I think he means it was unfair to give such a problem to a sophomore and expect a solution in 75 minutes.

This crazy mo-fo just enouraged my ass to go get my EFX on for today.

I'm amazed they didn't use the most standard unit of long measurment in America: the length of a football field.
A) Why did Sony have to leave altogether?

"Hey Bernie, we're out of 500mhz CPUs could ya' downgrade some of the 1gig units?"
That Bernie guy is just the kind of asshole that would go along with it too...
I might be nuts, but I remember 4 or 5 borgs on there at once.
It's VERY usefull for demos and presentations though.
Not to mention porn...
What a coincidence. Ramfloppy rescued my ass this weekend when the shit hit the fan with my system (*cough* hdparm *cough*).
Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. 14% of people know that.
