Poor Tom, I looked at his resume that I found through that link and it turns out he is currently employed with Fannie Mae. Thanks for your Linux work, sorry about that pension that I just saw whooshing out the door.

It's a great book but I'm betting that you'll fly through it very quickly because of your pretty extensive background. From there I'd suggest getting Head First Servlets and JSP. It's a great book to read after Head First Java. These are a truely great series of books.

Yes because we all know, that if McCain would have picked a 1st term male governor of a state with more reindeer than people, noone would be criticising him.

She's been governor for one month longer than Obama has been running for the presidency.

I talked to an emergency room doctor about this when I was in the market for my wedding band. He said they don't try cutting the carbide or titanium rings off, they simply use a pair of vice grips to squeeze down on them until they shatter.

I agree, I work at a VERY large bank and we are currently building a huge internal app used by all of our bankers, call centers, etc. We have in recent years moved all of our fat apps to web apps and we needed something that could handle a ton of AJAX calls easily. I love being able to debug in Java and have it output js. So far it's been a breeze to work in. It's great for this type of application.

"But a major hurdle, possibly the most daunting, is how to obtain and install Linux on their PCs without disrupting their Windows installation."

This, I believe is one of the biggest myths in the Linux world present day. So many distros have went to easy to use GUI installers, tutorials on dual booting are a dime a dozen, and with each release of the major distros it just gets easier and easier. The true hurdle that must be overcome when a new person starts using Linux (atleast from my experiences) is installing apps. Trying to install your first app on Linux, especially if you only have the source files can be a nightmare.
