  1. Defeating security... on OpenID - Open Source Single-SignOn · · Score: 1

Doesn't this make it THAT much easier for a break in, or identity-theft? Now if tons of sites and companies support this, hackers only need to break through ONE barrier to steal your identity. In general, anything that makes the user's experience easier, it also makes it less secure. But thats just my .02

  2. Dear god.... on Linux Server Break-in Challenge · · Score: 1

this is pathetic, they say that they will be running more than the usual number of service ( = more possible holes ) and expect this to last more than a couple hours?? Unless this company has some ungodly hard-linux distro up their sleeves, this will be short and pathetic. If you ever look at some of the so called "war games" online with this sort of thing you know how it goes. Even with 3 or so services running un-patched exploits are all too common to make breaking in hard.

If no one breaks in, I can only think of one good reason why

    - This company really does have a very secure distro and the uber-hackers can't be convinced to try it (look at some of the posts above for the reasoning behind that one)

  3. Re:I think that I can say for most people here... on MS Security Chief Says Windows is Safer Than Linux · · Score: 1
Microsoft is basing that claim by number of patch distributions, not by size for severity, cute. So, just because they (usually) wait up to a month to release a patch

I agree, at least my linux box *IS* patched and on time (for the most part). Let them claim what they want all they want, its one guy barking at the other.

Who says they wouldn't reporduce? I mean if they can think for themselves about reproducing *I* think that it would be like everything else in life... some would and some wouldn't. Though i have to admit their reasoning for either choice is kinda creepy ;)

  5. Re:So much easier to knock down than to build up on Top 10 Apple Flops · · Score: 1

You make it sound like the author is bashing Apple. Look, not one place do they say "Apple Sucks, look at all this crappy stuff!" Its more of a look at the failures when the company seems to be riding one of its biggest success waves. You seem to think that looking at the negative side of things is horrible, its human nature... roll with it ;)

You can measure the wisdom of a law document by how *rarely* it gets updated.
WTF?! Using that reasoning means that laws allowing slavery were pure genius i guess? You can't judge a law simply by how long it lays untouched.

It does matter, encryption works the same way. It isn't unbreakable but hard to do so. It keeps everyone and their brother from doing something or looking at your private e-mail. It keeps out the ones who either are too stupid or whatnot from getting past. There will always be exceptions. *shrug*

  9. I'll get excited when... on Speech Recognition in Silicon · · Score: 2, Insightful

I see some results. So far theres been quite a few attempts at speech recongnition. Generally they all fall short, they don't like accents, and often mis-interpret. I know because awhile back we looked at something for my grandfather, he can't keep his hand steady enough to write anymore... *shrug*
