    Wrong.
Ok, I should have put in big letters In my opinion before stating that Sony doesn't make excellent games. None of those games you listed, in my opinion, are any good, and arguing whether or not they are is stupid, because it's opinion.

Anyways, it looks pretty clear that Sony and Nintendo are not going to be in the same positions with ps3 and wii they were with ps2 and gamecube. For one, the ps3 is six hundred dollars. The Wii will sit next to it at $250, with unique games that gamers and non-gamers can enjoy together, and if you don't like unique games, there's an 360 for 2/3rds the price that plays simular games. Square Enix's been pretty clear that they're not going to be as exclusive to Sony as they have in the past, and they're considering putting DQIX on Wii. The other big developers have pretty much already gone multi-platform. The ps3 is just not going to have the third party support that the ps2 and 2 enjoyed. Maybe it won't be that bad, but buying a ps3 at launch is just foolish.

It's not that people lose rights as soon as they create something, but they lose control of things when they give them to other people. The government tries to give them control because they believe it will encourage more creativity, but there's no way to take back control of something that you've given to someone else. People used to xerox and even hand copy books, now that things are digital and can be copied instantanously it's stupid to even try to stop people.

But it's not like you're doomed to never make money off your music/books/movies/whatever anymore. In addition to live performances and collectors' editions which cannot be easily copied, the creators have the ability to make copies available that are easier to find and better quality than others. Why do you think iTunes makes money despite all their music/tv shows/movies being available on bittorrent for free?

While Outlook 2000, XP, and 2003 look relatively simular at first glace, the menus to change various options are totally different. At work, we recently had to change everyone's settings to use authentication, and the instructions for changing it were completely different for each version.

None of the excellent games on the playstation and ps2 were made by Sony. More and more of the excellent franchises that have been on playstation are going multi-platform. With the public relations disaster that's going on with the ps3, it's likely to have significantly less marketshare, and that means even less exclusive games. For about the price of a ps3, you could get a Wii and a 360, so I think it's rather likely that anyone who buys a ps3 at launch will be screwed over.

I wouldn't put every document you've ever made on it. If you're never going to use the document on another computer, or if it contains information that would be totally bad if hackers ever got into it, then it's not worth the hassle to upload it.

Everyone I work with calls PDF Adobe. I don't think most of them even know what PDF means, because Windows hides the extension, so they just see the little Adobe "A" icon. I have Foxit on my computer, and one of my coworkers was all confused when she saw my icons. "What's that?" "PDF" "What's that?". Then this weekend, at a committee meeting at my church, we voted to put our newsletters in "Adobe PDF" from now on. I didn't even try to explain that we don't have to tack "Adobe" to "PDF". I've meet very few people in real life who understand that .pdf is not to Adobe as .doc is to Microsoft, if they can even seperate in their heads a file format from the program they use to open it.

If Debian is as "totally free" as they claim, then presumably I could make my own distro and call it "Debian" too. (Or, hell, I could make a TOTALLY UNRELATED piece of software and call it "Debian"... the name is free, right?)
On Ubuntu, I've installed XMMS, and for some reason it came with a skin that says "DEBIAN" in big letters, with the Debian logo. In fact, it doesn't actually say XMMS on it anywhere. I guess if I was stupid, and hadn't typed apt-get install xmms to get it, I might think it was called Debian, since that's the only name I see. Do I see Debian bitching at XMMS and/or Ubuntu? No. Ok, maybe they don't know about it, but when you make open source programs, you just gotta let some things slide. I mean, why would you license your program to be modified by anyone if you don't actually want people to mod it?

You know that schools just add the costs of the software to the tuition, right? So in those "deals", every student has to pay for a license for Windows and Office even if they already have them or use Mac/Linux/whatever and never actually buy and use the CDs sold in the bookstore. So I would define schools that don't do that as not sucking.

In America it would go beyond fair use. Unlike other countries, America doesn't have a tax for TV, the TV stations get their money through advertising and direct payments (cable and satelite). If you post an American TV show on the internet without the advertisments, then the advertisers don't get what they paid for (people watching the ads) and won't pay for future TV shows. Of course, there's the question of what if you post it with the ads intact, but I don't think they like that either.
