love that show? It was my favorite show growing up. It was good ol' Mr. Wizard that introduced me to science when I was a kid. I still rattle off things that amaze people that I remember seeing on the show when I was a young boy. Crazy. Is everything I know and love to wither and die? Ahh, but alas.....
I heard something on the news about this when the details were unfolding this morning. I thought to myslef "Not again.. What the fuck is wrong with people." I mean, really, what the hell would cause someone to do something of this nature? I can understand being mad, even mad enough to kill - but that is rage targeted at an individual for perceived crmes against myself. To do something of this magnitude to what basically amounts to a group of innocents is just mind numbingly awful. Fucktard. Also, my best to those affected by one persons retardation.
Wow! 9600? My first modem was a hulking aluminum covered beastly Hayes 300!! It was lightening Fast!! I remember you could watch each line of text run across the screen. Talk about aniticpation! It was just the thought that my computer was actually COMMUNICATING with another computer miles away. Blew my mind. Then I got my 1200 modem. Blazing speed. I think I had every gen of modem speed. 300, 1200, 2400, 9600, 14.4, 28.8, 36?, 56.6 then broadband! BBS's were the shit. I lost my cherry in many ways through them My first brush with the law, my first online pals, first chatroom 'cybersex', even met the girl who was my 'first' online. Crazy shit.
Whaaaa! Quit your bitching. You can think of a limitation for any product. If you cannot see the advantages, then do not buy it! I, for one, can think of several uses for these bad boys. My only complaint is that they are not available in the US yet.
While I did start on a PC, it was an 8088 back in 1984-ish. Had no games to play, so I taught myself Basic and made them. It was amazing how many dozens upon dozens of games you could fit onto a 360K floppy! That then let to other programming and telecommunications via my first modem - Hayes 300baud external goliath. Ah... Memories..
10-4! That part of the article got me chuckling. I have COX here in Phoenix. I have thier premiere level account with a 10mbit/s connection for $55/mo. So, that would only be 7.5x faster. A far cry from 20. What a crock.

While that sounds all fine and dandy, if I understand this technology, it is not wireless. I am sure that the military could come up with some amazingly devious ideas with this, but I do not think this would be one. How could you transmit a stream of photons bearing the encryption to a remote location out of line of sight without some type of optical cable and maintain an error rate of around 9%? I am sure they have some other shit worked up for that!!!
I doubt something like this will stay isolated to the Tempe area for very long. The Phoenix Metro area is pretty damn big. To say Tempe is a separate city is to merely recognize an imaginary border. We are really one large city with no physical borders of over 2.5 milion people. Even for those of us in Phoenix, Mesa, Peoria, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Chandler and the other 'cities', the wait may not be to terribly long.
I have to agree with this reasoning. Whenever I have to move, even in town, one top criteria is availability of high-speed internet access, wireless or otherwise. Before broadband cable became available throughout virtually the entire city (Phoenix), I passed up several potentially nice areas becasue the thought of going back to dialup scared the shit out of me. I think this is a sweet idea.
Agreed. I live in nearby Phoenix and have a wonderfull broadband connection with a nice 4mbps connection which I would not give up even if there were free access at my home. I do work in downtown Tempe, so the free wireless is a nice touch when bored at lunch. Fire up the laptop and surf the porn off of the companies netowrk! Can't beat that!
Is it just me or does the little one look like one of those gold coin condoms? Also, although it does not surprise me that the 'obfuscated mp3' format was broken so quickly, doesn't it seem funny that this scheme, and DRM in general, is so pathetic?
Wow. I remember this crap from back in the old days.

The picture might help you. RTFA! It is the little rectangle stuck to the back of the phone with the companies name on it.

How's your dialup connection on your laptop in the middle of the park? I bet this would be better.
