Er, you should consider the total amount of time it takes you to take a plane, not just the flight itself. These days you need 1.5 - 2 hours just before boarding.
Consider the Japanese Shinkansen. It has a lot of departures during the day. It's true it costs as much as an air ticket, but it still transport a significant amount of people, particularily between Osaka and Tokyo (around 3 hs). You just get onboard in the middle of the city, and it delivers you to the middle of the other city.
Actually, there is a proposal to link the entire D/FW - Austin - San Antonio area to the Mexican cities of Monterrey (2nd largest), Torreon and Saltillo to establish a huge international commerce loop.
Don't forget the funky theme song from Sega's "Space Harrier". Recently I found a remix version on a Japanese CD.
Also, the samba-like lively music from the "Fantasy Zone" series of games... Opa Opa theme!
Anyone who is a long time Sega fan knows that some of the weirdest plots and executions were made for the Sega Master System series of "Alex Kidd" games.
How about "Alex Kidd in High Tech World"? You are young prince Alex. A new arcade has opened in town, but you don't know how to get there. You must put together the pieces of the map, scattered through your [japanese] castle, solving riddles and what nots.
There's also "Alex Kidd in Shinobi World"... Alex sure was a polyfacetic young chap.
Does Hollywood provoke that kind of imagining? It does not. Hollywood has to show everything, because it doesn't trust its audience.
Actually, Hollywood does it because it's a visual medium. I know, there are movies in which some things are left to the imagination of the viewer, but this has to do more with plot elements than anything else.
Not really. The distribution deal originally included all the movies made by the Studio from Nausicaa to Yamada (I know, I know, Nausicaa was made before the Studio was formally stablished).
The deal also stated that Disney would take a part in the production (money, not creative input) of further films... So far, they've contributed money to Yamada, Spirited Away, Cat Returns and the upcoming Howl's Moving Castle.

Is it just me, or is that a Totoro Gameboy I see in those pictures?
