  1. Prius drivers arrogance on Charge Rage: Electric Cars Are Making People Meaner In California · · Score: 1

I thought I'd add an OT but hopefully humorous comment about how a good percentage of the Prius drivers here (Northern Ca) are the most arrogant drivers I've ever seen in many decades of driving. They have no qualms about cutting you off at a very slow speed, iow without merging, then accelerating ever so slowly, or perhaps I should say in the most environmentally friendly fashion - to eventually get up to the speed of the other vehicles in the lane. I do everything I can to avoid getting cut off by Prius drivers.

  4. All it needs is a wireles Borg control headset on A Hypothesis On Segway Hate · · Score: 1

When people can exercise complete control over it with a wireless Borg-style headset (remember when the Star Trek captain was captured by the Borg and how sinister he looked?) you'll see a big shift in attitude. It will go from hate to revulsion/shock/fascination and the religious crowd will start complaining about unholy man-maching melds driving more nerds and techies to want one.

I hope Dr. Newman never suffers from the bone on bone knee condition my friend Bill is currently suffering from. Bill tells me the pain can be severe. If I can get my hands on them I'll be very happy to FAX Bill's X-Rays to Dr. Newman (as well as posting a link to them on slashdot) so the readers can judge for themselves.

  7. give yourself plenty of options on How Do Geeks Exercise? · · Score: 1

Lots of great ideas already, I'll repeat a few, but mostly I want to say that you may find having a selection of things to do will keep working out the most fun. Resistance training (with weights of some sort) is important to get or maintain bone and muscle mass, so I'd buy a curling bar and some dumbbells. Buy a decent (comfortable, light, fast) bicycle, aerobics help the heart & lungs, having a fast bike you love really helps you get excited about riding it. And diet is a huge contributor to health/illness: I recommend you seriously consider becoming a vegan and quit eating junk food. Finally, mix up your workouts if that keeps them from getting boring, the body likes you to throw different challenges at it, ride 10 miles plus several times a week, lift weights hard twice a week, eat healthy 80% of the time, you'll definitely feel and look better.

patio11 makes a good point, I'd like to see an overall view of employment numbers in Japan. From the little reading I've done on the subject, it sounds like the culture is going through a lot of changes, and this trend sounds like part of a new way of thinking, people wanting fair wages for sane hours - to hazard a guess.
