Why would someone fork that much cash for a G4 system and then slap Linux on it? I can understand if you've got MAC OS 9 on there, but if it comes with MAC OS X, it doesn't make any sense.. it's like "Well, we got all these PowerPC's and RS/6000's with a specially designed operating system call AIX for the hardware, but we're going to slap Linux on there so's we can be cool."
After things settle and the blanks get filled in, it'll be cool to see the data set become available for distributed processing, like SETI and the real-deal (see subject).
It's probably more like, "Well, we coulda made $1 Trillion, but instead we had to settle for $.9986 Trillion, poor us." Maybe all those Evil Hackers[tm] should flood the market with local music, promoting the local scenes, and break another monoply. Nevermind, that's all ready happened.
Headline: Dr. Knuth and/. are wanted by the FBI for perpetuating a DDoS attack against www.advogato.org. The wicked combination of Knuth's name and/.'s front page all but splattered the funny tasting fruit...
Once information is on the net, there isn't really any possiblity of supprising the distribution. Is the MPAA going to have people arrested in foriegn countries?
Its an interesting legal case, but a purely academic one at this point.
I won't be surprised when we start seeing the major credit-card companies come out with a set of standards say "you have to use these security features, or we won't do business with you." After all, they are the ones that will get screwed in the long-run if that don't ($50 dollar deductable of unauthorized charges)...
I just worry about using a check-card one line, all my cash is in that account... i know, i know

If Hegel is correct, then this monolithic concentration of information and cultural influence should develop a most interesting antagonist. The likes of a greater/.:)
The article suggests that great/good programmers/designers are capable of approaching problems/solutions from different angles.
It has been my experience that focus completely upon a single idea to the exclusion of all else tends to limit my problem solving ability. When I'm stuck, I've found the best way to get unstuck is to do something else for a while: sleep, excersize, sex... then go back, and behold the solution is smack-dab right there in front of my forehead.
that 75% supposed waste can be used for other textiles such as building materials, industrial cloth, rope and don't foroget all that cardboard that ISV's are so fond of over-rapping themselves with:-)
I had two different people drag me out of my cave this weekend. In short, I saw the damn movie twice this weekend. In shorter, I didn't plan I seeing it at all!
The part I liked best was hearing all the morons afterwards the saying "Duh, I didn't get it"... that and showing the ticket cherk my freaking ID (evidently at 27 I still don't pass for 18:-)
