As with many other things involving intelligence, the entire evidence is not laid out for public consumption.
Oh ok, well then I'll trust you just b/c you (and the gov't) said so. I'm not really sure why we need this evidence crap at trials anyway..you wouldn't have gotten arrested if you didn't do it!
Now, I'm going to go back to reading my bible, its old and someone says i should believe it!
There's no "debate" about Alger Hiss among people in the intelligence community.
Well we all know the intelligence community never is wrong. I mean, just look at all the WMD coming out of Iraq! Good thing we got to Saddam before he could use them!
You're more than welcome to show up at my door and look at my orders, awards and photos from my time at Fort Meade but I'll most certainly not post such items for public consumption.
Seem pretty convient. Not that I care, since you claim only to have seen 'documents.' Well, if some gov't agency wrote it on a piece of paper, it must be true! Get over yourself and your former job. Its likely you've hurt far more innocent people then you helped.
The response in the US is 'traffic lights aren't working, please follow the law regarding this.' The law (every state I've lived in at least), is that a flashing Red light = stop sign, while flashing yellow indicates slow down (but no need to stop).
Depending on the intersection, some have all sides flashing red, some have the main road flashing yellow.
All the traffic light would care about is what day of the week it is, and that is in a constant flow.
I think thats rather unfortunate. The lights should behave differently on Christmas then a regular Monday. Or the tue or Wed before thanksgiving, maybe the lights should be designed to let the most people out of the city and onto the interstates (or whatever normally happens in an area). Would help reduce congestion and help save alot of gas.
The gov't just declares it there...commonly known as condemming.
Why be sad for SBC? They aren't even providing what people want? They're putting out dog shit and expecting everyone to like it (and pay a VERY high price). So, they failed to provide something useful, which is the only reason we let corprations exist.
It'd be a win for everyone; all the cable tech guys now work for the gov't, the cust service for SBC still needs to exist, they can offer service. They'd have to compete, but thats a good thing.
Since by definition (by some) the state is less efficient than private enterprise, it should resign itself to collecting funds and farm out the execution of, well, anything to the low bidder
I guess that explains the shitty roads and telcom and cable service i'm getting...
hat this is a case of the state having an unfair advantage over a business. This is much like the case of the US Postal Service trying to compete with the likes of UPS and FedEx.
Last i checked, UPS and FedEx were doing just fine.
I think thats the problem. The lines should be owned by the state, and ANYONE that wants to offer a service over them can pay a monthly fee to do so. Obviously the gov't should NOT be allowed to censor anyone that wants to provide whatever service they wanted over those lines.
The gov't gains a new income that doesn't have to raise taxes, and there should be plenty of competition for business to offer services over the lines.
I think it does...I have alot of games that just won't run on XP (since all my older games are DOS/Windows), but if they were open source someone could port them to linux or even XP.
1. Quad damage was unbalancingly powerful. Whoever grabs it gains several free frags (even with the shotgun). Although, players that are skilled enough can lay an ambush.
I never thought so...just having quad doesn't mean you can hit your target any better. In my CTF 4 days, quad + str rune usually was more dangerous to yourself then anyone else.
2. If you suicide with the thunderbolt, the early versions of Quake cause the client to enter a permanent zombie state. This wouldn't be a problem, if it weren't for the fact that this got carried over to some expansion pack weaponry.
I never experienced this...is it common? I never heard of it, and i was playing quake in college for years (96-99). Such a bug would go around the dorms pretty quick I'd think.
3. The crosshair is slightly off center.
I'll give you that, but only b/c myself and no one i knew ever used the crosshair. Not sure why that would be such a huge deal though anyway...
4. Quake is sensitive to spam because of it's low MAX_EDICTS. If enough players constantly fire Nailguns (30 max nails/person, although I haven't seen it go that high), you could crash some servers running fairly large maps.
I run a dedicated server w/16 players on a P90 w/32mb ram and never had this problem.
5. The Grenade launcher balance is debatable - while I might agree with it, it was classified as an overpowered spam weapon.
I've had fun with this before, myself having the haste rune + a friend using the GL also...but i never heard anyone say it was unbalanced. Again, you were more likely to kill yourself as an enemy.
6. The Rocket launcher balace is also debatable - it can do a long-range instant kill.
Only if the other player is injured already (or you had quad or a rune). But so will a Halo rocket under those conditions.
But other than these minor issues
If these issues are minor, why do you say Quake's DM is obsolete?
I still see people going for the nostalgic gameplay - whether in QuakeWorld, or DMC under Half-Life.
I agree here..been playing doom from DoomsdayHQ. Now if only i could get mortal kombat and Metal & Lace (an old anime game) working...
This is analagous to saying if someone who can't take care of a car, uses a different brand, they will have better luck. While true, the other brand may very well have fewer issues needing repair, it still will break down, and the person will still find a way to fubar it.
Personally I like the anology. Yes, all cars break down. But Hondas will break down alot less then Fords, even if the user isn't doing everything they are supposed to. Hell, Fords seem to break down even if you are doing all the required maintence.
You use a language that requires 10 instructions to do a task, you'll have 10 times bug rate bugs in your resulting code. You use one that requires a 100, you'll have 100 times bug rate, hence more bugs. The benefit of java is that it does a lot for you.
I fail to see how this is valid; so you write less code, but whoever programmed Java still had to write those 10 lines somewhere..and the fact is he may have a higher bugrate then myself.
Not true, some still go into Windows (or System32).
But I guess the question is, if you have an installation / uninstallation program (as linux also does) why do you care where libs and executables go? I like having ALL configuration files in one place personally, and don't care where the rest ends up.
Checking your link, that WEGA is nothing like mine, especially at $2100. Mine is a plain ol' CRT, and cost me $800 new at bestbuy...but according to this my TV is actually heavier then your friends...assuming its still the same TV (I don't think mine has the clear edge chip).
At any rate, I still don't see how weight matters, its not like I move that much.
I fail to see how this could possibly be construed as some type of censorship, or some left-wing conspiracy to steal your precious children away.
Well, look how many R rated movies there are. It does amount to censorship. It doesn't matter if you explicitly say you can't say something or they 'fine' you for it or just put up more hurdels for people to hear you, its all censorship.
I really have a hard time imagining WHY people could object to this. Any law that empowers parents to raise their children, within the bounds that limit abuse, is a good law.
So you're saying parents can't look at the game once its in the house to see the rating? Why exactly does the store have to check for the parent? The parent is incapable of checking themselves?
If you're afraid a game might have more influence over what they think is right and wrong then your parenting has, I'd say you've done something seriously wrong.
Just because a law gets broken by many people on many occasions does not necessarily make it a bad law.
I'd argue that laws that are routinely violated by people are in fact laws that should be repealed.
I'm also willing to bet most parents don't care what their kids play as far as video games go, b/c they know they did ok teaching their children morals.
I suspsect its the squeky wheel we're hearing. Much like the recent FCC fines as a result of the PTC.
Anyway..I was attacking your post that a child ALWAYS becomes a productive member of society, which I don't think serial killers are. If thats not what you were getting at in your post, I appologize.
And certainly for the name calling, I appologize regardless.

Oh..and the rare case the light has no power at all...its supposed to be the same as a stop sign for all sides.
The response in the US is 'traffic lights aren't working, please follow the law regarding this.' The law (every state I've lived in at least), is that a flashing Red light = stop sign, while flashing yellow indicates slow down (but no need to stop).

Has no one noticed that "binding arbitration" appears in just about everything you are required to sign now?
No, it doesn't, even with those clauses. If you don't like the outcome of the arbitrator, you can sue.
Rights are something you can't really sign away. Could a black man living in the south sign away his right to be treated equally?
Since by definition (by some) the state is less efficient than private enterprise, it should resign itself to collecting funds and farm out the execution of, well, anything to the low bidder

He also had the ability to turn our phone into an intercom without us knowing
Actually this is probably illegal in most of the US...its in violation of wiretap laws.
I think it does...I have alot of games that just won't run on XP (since all my older games are DOS/Windows), but if they were open source someone could port them to linux or even XP.

Ok, i actually own a Sony WEGA 36", and its NOT 250lbs. Its still heavy, weighing in at 100lbs, but lets not over exaggerate here.
I fail to see how this could possibly be construed as some type of censorship, or some left-wing conspiracy to steal your precious children away.

But staying on topic--I'm tired of this "do it for the children" crap that solely blames external factors for adolescent misbehavior.
I agree. Its gotten so bad that these idoits even managed to screw up New Year's Eve. Google for 'first night' to see what I mean.
If you're afraid a game might have more influence over what they think is right and wrong then your parenting has, I'd say you've done something seriously wrong.

Sorry...got a bit too fired up in that thread.

Yes, which stemmed from a censorship article :-)
