wonder if someone could use the DMCA against the ISP when it happens here
Ok, i hate that stupid law as much as anyone, but simply breaking encryption isn't covered...breaking encryption on copyrighted materials (ie, access control) is what is forbidden.
Well...when i was told that in '98 it was true. Maybe things have changed, or maybe overclocking involved a better cooling system then simply heatsink + fan.
What i was told exactly is that Intel allowed a buffer, where the chip could handle more heat, but AMD kept thier chips on the edge, thus overclocking was discouraged. Now, that could still be true, and more advanced cooling systems let AMDs be overclocked. i really don't know.
I buy AMD because its cheaper and gives the same or better performance then Intel.
I've never had a stability problem with VIA chipsets either, and i've been running them for years, at least 5 to be exact. One board HAS been running for 5 years.
Capacitors are known to explode when they are operated out of spec. I suspect there's a big link here.
I don't overclock; first off, AMD isn't known to handle it well. Second, i'd rather just get the processor just put out of date by the current new thing.
However, i believe i have a board with this problem; i recently upgraded board and chip, putting the old one (temporarly) out of service. While i didnt have any problems with the board, after reading the story the first time i checked the board. I found one capacitor with a dome top, and traces of a brownish substance along the slices in the top. So i probbaly have one of the defective boards, but it wasn't caused by my overclocking it.
thats a pretty antiqued idea i think. Sony makes speakers under thier brand, but also under the brand Sony ES. The ES speakers are supposed to be high quality...the Sony speakers from all accounts are shit.
At any rate, most companies have shown time and again that they are NOT loyal to you. Why should you be loyal to them?
We still have them in ours. WE have a foosball table, xbox, and PS2. Yet our company continued growing while our completitors were going throuh layoff after layoff.
We're treated like adults, and we act like adults. They provide games for us to play, we don't abuse them and get our work done.
People LOVE working here, and because of the extra mile our employer goes for us, we are willing to go the extra mile for them.
People need breaks. Reading and making a couple of posts to/. hardly effects thier bandwidth. They're paying for it whether you use it or not. Looking at some webpages won't hurt you employers bottom line; in fact, it may help it.
Show me a site coded to standards that doesn't work with IE. The fact that IE allows things outside the standard doesn't mean it will fuck up things that do meet said standards.
From the way i read the ruling, it isn't quite like that. They basically can't force you to get the 'standard' tier if you wanted just basic but also wanted HBO.
No, usually the way it works is they charge you another say $7 / month which gives the 2nd machine in your network its own IP address. Only one cable modem required for this, as well.
--BTW, I hope they launch an *extensive* investigation into NASA's current MO, and upgrade the whole shebang for more safety and efficiency. They need some kind of failsafe to preserve these people's lives if disaster strikes.
--I'm looking for the last Slashdot story where an independent agency was deriding NASA's latest plan for a new orbiter, because NASA hasn't come up with anything FEASIBLE for years, and is wasting Billions of $$. NASA should be called on the carpet for this, and MAJOR CHANGES need to happen now.
We're not talking about driving down the block here, we're talking about leaving the atmosphere and reentering after a few days. No matter how safe they make it, its going to be very dangerous, just from the magnitude of the forces involved.
Now if you think NASA is lagging and not paying enough attention to safety, maybe you should start lobbying for more funding for them. Its not easy to come up with a brand new vehical for space travel when your budget is being cut year after year.
Short-term it sucks, but probably in the long-term there will be an equilibrium. All other things being equal, of course.
Doubtful. The jobs will simply move the next country with cheap labor. The loss of those jobs will damage the economy they helped bring up in the first place.
Well many movies just have a lot of gratuitous sex and violence that don't really add anything to the plot.
Maybe if you're watching a slasher movie. But then, thats kinda the point in those kind of movies isn't it?
This player removes all the violence, as it said only about 4 minutes were cut out of Black Hawk Down.
Have you seen the movie? There was ALOT more then 4 minutes of violence in it...
For example, is it absolutly crucial that you see a huge gaping wound in an action movie, or see the actual bullet rip through someone?
Why not, thats probably pretty close to what would happen.
Gunfire and the aftermath of a bleeding person do just as well.
I'm not so sure; seeing someone who's leg is 10 feet from them is alot different then seeing it actually blow off (from a landmine, for example). Its alot more powerful, and if people are upset by it, maybe they should rethink thier positions on going to war for real.
Or the opening shot of a sex scene where two people are making out in a bed half dressed. I think it's pretty obvious what's going to happen and so is it really neccasary to spend the next minute showing closeups of breasts and lots of moaning?
And whats wrong with that? Its a perfectly natural thing. Maybe you should get over your hangups and realize that people aren't born with clothes, and the reason you exist is probably because of a real life situation similar to what your watching. Women DO have breasts you know.
Sure some people love it, but is it really so bad to cut it out so little Johnny can see an otherwise clean movie?
The whole point of the rating is that maybe he shouldn't be allowed to watch it just yet. Whats wrong with making little Johnny wait a few years when he's mature enough before he can watch the movie in its entierty. Or maybe he should see BHD with all of the gore so that when he's older he'll realize that maybe war isn't such a good thing, b/c he remembers having his stomach turned from watching the movie when he's little.
Violence and sex are needed or do add to the plot in some movies, but a lot of times it's completely useless.
You haven't given me any specific examples. The only movie you meantioned was Black Hawk Down, and i think its pretty clear that the violence in that movie is there to make a point and as part of the plot.
And that's what this player aims to get rid of.
Again, if you don't like it, maybe you shouldn't watch the movie at all. I don't watch slasher movies, because i don't like all the gore. Are you suggesting that i have a right to watch a slasher movie without the slashing? Whats the point then? The other thing about this player is that its not you making the desicions, its a 3rd party. I'm sure the director doesn't care if you fast forward a scene you don't like, its when someone else does it for you.

The US isn't that isolationist.
Not saying the US was; but they may keep people out that refuse to play by the rules they dicate for 'security' reasons.

If thats what was required to get into your country, i won't bother visiting.
What if countries refuse? -- and I can't really see the rest of the world adding biometrics to their passports just becuase the US tells them to.
Then you wouldn't be allowed in the US.

Does that apply though if the derivative work is for your use only?
Technically couldn't highlighting be a derivitive work if thats not the case?

Funny, works fine for me. Then i noticed your text about it not working in IE 4. Gee really?
IE 4 was released Sept '97...CSS2 wasn't made an official recommendation until May '98.
By that logic, i bet the latest version of lynx isn't standards compliant as well.
I'm certainly not suprised that it took a while before browsers caught up to the standard...it takes time to code them!
Show me a site coded to standards that doesn't work with IE. The fact that IE allows things outside the standard doesn't mean it will fuck up things that do meet said standards.

Funny, TW in Upstate NY doesn't care. They only refuse support if your computer is part of a LAN.
Hmm. I tried that with CCC Globalcom. They lost a customer b/c they wouldn't send a check for an amount i had overpaid them.
No, usually the way it works is they charge you another say $7 / month which gives the 2nd machine in your network its own IP address. Only one cable modem required for this, as well.
They care because they want to charge your an extra fee to have another IP address. Never mind that a firewall would improve security.
Yet he fails to explain his quote...
Um, he is, but not by limits they set, its from limits imposed in his life.
AOL will most certainly drop its BYOA fees to 10 a month
Hmm, i've only paid 4.95/month for that since 97.

Not really....they can return to the economy that was first ruined by the outflux of jobs.
Short-term it sucks, but probably in the long-term there will be an equilibrium. All other things being equal, of course.
