Care to back up your claims with proof? From what i understand, food shortages are occuring b/c farming is big buisness. Take India for example. Lets also not forget that big buisness likes to redefine 'production' so that areas making enough food for themselves through traditional methods look like they are producing nothing.
War will cause famine for sure. I'm willing to bet the reason for famine with gov't run food production is b/c the gov't was concerned with feeding itself, not its people.
Yes, that would be a socalist thing. But for the basics (food, water, clothing) i think its the way to go. For some things, socialism is not a bad way to do things.
at my school. And your question is vague; you say you know whats wrong with your school's program, but you never say what you think that is. What do you think is wrong, and what makes you think its not just your school?
Which is why i think food production should be a gov't thing. Everyone gets a certain amount reguardless, and if you want more then that amount, you can buy it.

You can download it; there's a little disk icon that they even put there for you to do so.
At any rate, what was funny about it? It was Episode 1, just with the southpark characters. They didn't say anything funny, and it was just as boring as the movie they tried to spoof.
Good point...my school, RIT has this in the library, although it is relativly new. I can't imagine they will be far behind with the entire campus since they were one of the first schools to wire the dorms for ethernet.
I'm not sure web sites and ISPs were EVER granted common carrier status. They have been fighting for it, but so far, i think they have been losing. I think the gov't needs to explicitly say who is and isn't a common carrier.
How does the moderation effect them being publishers? The moderation is not done by them, nor does it have to do with the legality of the post. I just has to do with how useful the post is, as decided by the slashdot readers, not slashdot.
Sure, they could not link. but that would hardly 'remove or disable' access to those links anyway. So I don't see how you could argue that/. even could remove or disable access to the other sites.
I don't think they have; and i doubt they will unless someone takes action. Action would be fruitless anyone; both of those things are all over the net by now.
Interesting, since i was smart and picked on, but did none of those things. I was a nice person, and got along w/most people, mainly b/c i didn't say much in school. if i am a little arrogant now, its as result of being picked on, not the reason i was picked (in case you're wondering, its b/c i came into public school late in the game). I suspect the reason 'these people' leave with a chip on their shoulder is because they have the knowledge that they will amount to something, while the morons that picked on them will be asking 'do you want fries with that?' for the rest of thier lives.
the future is filled with Microsofts. They operate by stealing the technology of other companies and then repackaging it as their own.
Dude, just what the hell is it that you think MS does??
Seriously though i find it ironic that you say A) if the patents go away, the world will be filled with Microsofts and B) fail to realize that MS became huge in a country that allows just what you are proposing.
Or perhaps the frequency of refueling, and the cost to do so. Perhaps 'average cost/month to refuel' would be a good measure (assuming of course, the same distances).
Range - I drive ~55 miles to work; i drive ~25 miles to see my girlfriend; i drive ~35 miles to see family members.
Recharge time - If i go to one of the above mentioned places, i may not want to spend the night (excluding my gfs, that is). I also doubt my employer would want me sucking all that electricity down that he's paying for so i can go home. Also, as of right now, no gas stations are setup for this. In order for this to be widespread, it has to be available at any gas station. But to be available at any gas station, this needs to be widespread. so without some kind of legislation to force gas companies to sell both (and gee, i think they might fight that), i don't see how its going to happen.
Actually i think the main problem is that the oil companies really don't like alternate fuels. They seem to buy up most of the research into that field, which could explain why its going so slow.
Quake 3 does this even if you're not connected to the internet? Somehow i doubt it.
I think you're right though; parents will not want their line tied up so their kids can play games. And i doubt they'd get a second line just for this.
I wouldn't call it free. He's providing people with a service they want. I don't think you'd say a therapist is getting a free ride. For some people, thats what religon is for. It helps them deal with life, much like a therapist would.
Uh i've never had MSN messanger in anything MS i've installed, and i have win2k here. I do get lookout distress, but that goes away quickly.

I was trying to remember those that can't or aren't working at the moment. In this day and age, its ridiculous for anyone to starve.

I'm not so sure if you're theory is right; i seem to remeber oil wells being lit by Iraq in the Persian Gulf conflict.

nor do they have any practical use for most of the waste heat.
Well, here in upstate NY, you can believe me we put most of that waste heat to good use.

Ya, and you'll be buying a car every 2 years, or less.

I wouldn't say that; i'm sure there are some out there. Unfortunatly it seems that when things get big, they attract corrupted people to them.
I'm not so sure it is a good idea. I mean, i don't want to have to be on the internet just to do some word processing or whatnot.
