I agree with you here, it is stupid. Personally i think if someone feels they are working in a hostle enviroment, they do have a legal recourse; quit. I don't like being controled, and any time someone else is held accountable for MY actions, that person (or buisness) will try to control me. So i'd rather just take the responsibilty of my actions myself.
i'm just as fanatic aboiut both:) If it were up to me, it would be illegel for companies to even ask about anything other then how you performed at prior jobs...no drug tests, no health tests, no dna gathering, not even asking if you smoke or like pork chops. when did the gov help linux? It seems to be doing fine to me. linux isn't about no competition either. redhat and caldera compete. but linux is about giving back as well, so everyone benifits. You must like ms b/c you have some shares, and know nothing about programming. It is impossible to make a decent program when parts of the os are hidden from you and other parts are broken so the code your wrote yesterday doesn't work.

up until this case, you could NOT buy a computer without windows. If you really wanted to, they would give you a blank hd, but that wouldn't lower the price AT ALL....so you still payed for it. It was only a few months into this case did companies start offering other oses; b/c they knew if MS objected, they would be adding more fuel to the fire. I rest my case.
I run netscape, it never crashes. On a side note, something called gozilla which i think is a plugin for ns seems to make ns unstable. Check out http://www.grc.com and download opt-out and have it do a deep scan. Alot of you may have it and not even realize it. My NS NEVER crashes; IE 5 does alot tho...go figure. As far as your office suite being tied to the os...WHY?????? That is very poor OS design, as any os designer would tell you. It gains you nothing but more instability. The os does 2 things, and it should do them well. Control access to devices(memory, hd [including fs stuff], vid card, etc) and manage processes. Thats it, no more, no less.

No it wouldn't. I don't think any of the smaller companies would have enough resources to do so. They got to be a monopoly by bundling stuff with thier os, and breaking competitors apps. An OS division couldn't break the OS anymore to make a competitors office suite break while the other "baby bill"'s wouldn't. That would be outlawed i'm sure, and it wouldn't be in the best intrest of the OS division. The reason local phone monopolies came into being was simple; think how many different wires would have to be on the pole to support 5 or 6 different local loops...its gets tangled really quick...i imagine the same logic gave cable companies local monopolies as well...too many wires. But MS doesn't have that problem.
Really? I've worked at a couple of places, and most of the employees were pretty ticked when windows or another MS product crashed and burned in the middle of thier work. Yes it did happen, quite frequently...and the company kept a very close eye on your system to allow only certain software. A friend of mine, every other night, almost throws his computer against the wall b/c something isn't working 'quite right' when he's trading stocks. Its very annoying when you're trying to sell stock to have a blue screen come up and killall your apps...and you call these people happy?

I find it ironic your solution is to do something just as rash and blanket; namely strip away all guns. The only real way to solve any problem is education. Look at the racists and hate groups...usually these people barely got through high school (if at all). Look at philosophers, professors, engineers...these are usually people that are not racist. Granted there are exceptsions, but ive found this to be the norm. It was also the victim's intolerence at colimbine that helped get them killed. Think about it; most of those kids that got shot probably contributed to making the shooters feel and act as outcasts. Thats just my theory on it, i don't know enough to claim its true. I just remember how i felt in HS...i just took a different path to deal with it.

Remember these are the people that pay 2.5x as much at compusa, drive minivans and suvs, and would happily give up thier rights to be "safer." They don't trust the gov't but they sure as hell don't mind letting it make more and more decisions in thier lives.
Careful with bell atlantic. I asked them if my town was covered, and they were like oh sure. Got home, the sig. strength was very low, and it makes it really really hard to talk...alot of cutouts, not being able to dial at all, and static. I told them about this and said this was barely service at all, and they just said "cell phones are not landline phones, you can't expect the same from both." In my opinion, thats BS...the really said thing is a 10min drive away and the sig. is pretty good...too bad i use it at home 90% of the time:(
