    My super-precise calculations indicate that 50% of the world's bandwidth is currently wasted on college students playing quake. The other 50% is college students downloading pr0n. Therefore, if all the colleges of the world start using internet2, we will all have super fast connections too since they will not be downloading pr0n and playing quake on our internet!! yay internet2!! ;)

    Well personnaly i think its colleges right to do that, the internet was developed in large part at the universites :) Please don't take me too seriously either on this.

    Ya i'd have to agree. Most of the time the answer is right there in the docs/readme, but people don't read them. Which is why companies started making the readme pop up right after installation, but i think most people just close them anyway. RFM is the best advice when you first have a problem.

    Just because the government regulates one type of internet transaction doesn't mean they can or will regulate every type.

    Ever hear of "give them an inch, and they'll take a mile?" It applies to most things in life i've found.

    Ok, i heard this from my dad...he's an mcse. Segfaulting IS just killing the program (and providing a large file if you wish to use it in a debugger)...get to know your terms please.

    What, having the exact steps written in a file isn't spelling it out? How many compenents of windows come with readme? Whats that, all of them?

    Try an AWE64....it takes maybe 10 secs to setup. Seems like most of the "new" sound cards have better midi support...which i don't understand, i like mp3 and other digial formats better. Unless i've missed something on the sblive box

    I'd have to agree. I've heard of NT servers coming down b/c of a screensaver. At worst the OS should kill with malicous intent the faulting program....i mean, the OS IS in charge, isn't it?

    I'd have to agree; my school has sys admin labs that have NT, 98 and RH6. It boots using NTs boot loader tho...but linux is the default startup :)

    Isn't that what business is all about? Doing business?

    Well in accounting class i learned that businesses are almost like people...they have certain obligations to the community (hence thier donations), and can have checking accounts, cars, etc. So it seems to me that buiness should follow the same code of ethics that people are expected to. There's alot more to the world then making money.

    Redhat did. Hell linux system labs dls thier entire product and sells it for 99 cents. Yet they seem to be doing pretty well.

    Amazons programmers must be idiots if they spent 1000s of hours developing that. Its what, probably boiled down to 2 database tables, a link between username and cc # (handles by the db of course) and a cookie on the client machine? Please, i could have coded that up in about 30mins, max.

    okay, i'll admit, the basic premise of the boycott is somewhat understandable. they are suing over a software patent that should and will be a staple of ecommerce.

    My question is, if someone patents a gasoline engine, and someelse makes an engine that also runs off of gasoline, but internally could be very different, is that infringment? At any rate, there's nothign to patent here. "We stored some info about our customer to make shopping quicker." There's not even an algorithm. Oh by the way, Harly's patent was never approved.

    Programmers engineer. IN fact, if you had any clue, you would know that there is COMPUTER SCIENCE and SOFTWARE ENGINEERING offered as 2 DIFFERENT majors. The software engineer has more of a mathematical/statistical side of programming. Also, usually it is the end user at fault. We have a saying, "garbage in, garbage out." Just as you wouldn't load your car up w/pretty little lights and have decorations and do stuff to the engine w/o knowing, you should not install every damn program under the sun, and fuck w/things you don't understand. I don't know much about my car, so i don't fuck with it. Now, i don't support buggy software, i think a developer has a big responsibilty to make sure everything works and what not, but not all of the blame lies on them.

    Hey, dumbfuck. Stupid people need the internet the most, so they can see what else is out there. You can't accidentally hurt someone on the net. If you say something offense, guess what, they'll fucking get over it! (Or should, at least). If someone wants to put up a site that spreads the message of hate they have every right to do so. Listen everyone, i will now post the solution to your not seeing offense sites on the internet. It will work 99% of the time. DON'T GO TO THE DAMN PAGE! There. If you find something you don't like, install netnanny and block it. And don't go back there either. Get over it, and move on with your pathetic little life.

    Well true, but there is a clause in the const. or in the bill of rights that says any rights not explictly given to the govt, states, or people is left to the people by default.

    Most people in power like to use that power. They run for office or join the FBI probably b/c they like having control and like to control others. Everyone has a little of that desire in them. The other day i tried paying by check, and the cashier looked at it, and her eyes brightened when she realized it was out of state. Then she proceeded to make a big deal of it (what do it do, etc)...finally (and w/a smile on her face) she informed me that would take it just this time, but they normally do not take out of state checks. Which is fine...but she really seemed to enjoy the idea that she might have to give me a hard time.

    Don't think that would be allowed by the GPL.

    So you could only charge for insurance what you would actually have to pay for it. I know you were probably kidding anyway, but i though i'd bring it to your attention just in case. :)

    Well wait a minute, you're not doing anything productive reading a book. Thats just entertainment too. Therefore a waste of time. While i agree that helping people out is well worth the effort, i don't think its correct to say all games are a waste of time. They can be "productive" as well, just in different ways.
