Following that line, you could argue that unless I give up absoltely everything but basic necessities, I'm morally responsible for said patient dying.

You should look at the software packages that come with ubuntu, there is software for everything. Just about anything my uncle would want to do can be catered for by software that can be downloaded by ubuntu's tools without messing around manually downloading stuff and without having to get out a credit card.

Hmm... I don't know if Windows VPC will run on 7 HP. If it does, you'll have to buy a copy of XP to run in it. Win7 Pro and higher come with a license to run XP, no extra cost there. Really, I don't see any reason not to just get 7 pro, has all the features of home + xp mode and other features (bitlocker).

My point is that a 10 year old OS at this point every knows almost all the holes, the newer OS closes many of those holes, and people haven't had as much time to find the newer exploits. Oh, and the security model did change (UAC, which helps quite a bit limiting the damage of exploits).
But please, keep pretending that Linux has few exploits because its OS, instead of the reality, in that its not important enough to care about.

Actually we'd be better off if we left everyone to take care of themselves. You see, instead of take 25% or more of my money and giving it to others, I could keep it and 1) save to ensure if I have trouble, I won't be a burden and 2) spend it on something other than food, which we have more than enough of already. As it is though, a good chunk of my money is being taken and wasted outside of my local area, which doesn't help the local economy, or being given to local people, so that they buy food... but doesn't do much to keep the local restraunt, movie theather or whatever going.
