I assume that by "while it lasted" you mean "while the concept had great PR"? (which included also comparative advantage with many more places - but such advantage doesn't mean much in general, especially considering the mode of creation of some lesserplaces in particular; but places populated with lesser people, so the PR could work well... comparably)
The beginning is perhaps somewhere else - say, in constant usage of forms of newspeak, repetition of "obvious" untruths by large enough part of society.
What we seem to have in abundance now ("enhanced interrogation techniques" or..."freedom", to use just two vivid examples; also of course general "national security" or even "enemy")
Time outs (and all sorts of other technical problems) didn't really harm the adoption of "archetypal" IM networks (because not only AIM) - their mode of communication was just better suited to what "average" people wanted, hence growing in times when those people connected to the net.
NOT using BCC seems more related to spam - particularly in the form of chain letters. Collecting hundreds of valid addresses per sweep seems to be their only "valid" purpose.
Who might have a vested interest in seeing that the public stops thinking of rulers being made to pay for growing oppressive?
Everybody who at least secretly hopes to get their own slice of the cake? (say, "stalinist libertarians" would be one category; "useful fools" in more general terms)
The French revolution was no communist project, so there was always going to be a new upper class, but the whole point was that the old corrupt and inbred upper class (the nobles and the clergy) was removed from power, and the new upper class was able to make lasting changes.
So, exactly how large part of them ended up in the US?...;) (ducks)
Politics, of systems of governance (also their decisions, their PR), are largely a reflection of society... the view must be broader (and that includes all those issues); in fact, escaping to narrower one can easily help to exacerbate issues.
I can see socialist healthcare suddenly becoming desirable if presented as "ensuring healthy cannon fodder for the Empire! Perform in a patriotically optimal way when giving up your sweat or blood!" (well, OK, perhaps not via such wording)
This even seems to have a very real chance of improving preventative healthcare, lapses of which are probably the primary reason why the US spends most in healthcare per capita (and that's just driven by simple average, by disparities / despite large part of population being uninsured or under-insured) for somewhat unimpressive results.
Your grammar nazism must take into account developments since the establishment of the party. The construct now seems pretty synonymous with "etc." - unless you can't stand the dot (seems also like an alternative form), in which case even Fuhrer can't help you...
Besides, apparently you couldn't tell how EN is my 3rd language.
Because it's easy to buy into the feeling of safety, control (merely feeling: cars perceived as safe - which typically means big, heavy & high (a powerful change of perception for our primate mind) - don't fare so particularly great in fatality rates) against the unpredictable. In case of "terrorism" this buy-in has different forms.
But, people, it's been a decade. It's time to shake it off. Yes, remember and never forget, but you have to live again. The US were the epitome of freedom, liberty and the ability to make your own way without interference from state or government, for almost all of its existence.... I want my US back!
Red Scare? McCarthyism? (Myths of) bomber gap, missile gap, mine shaft gap? Team B (pay close attention to the names in this one...) / "Hyping Terror For Fun, Profit - And Power"? (hm, terrorizing people with threats?... even hyped up or invented ones)
Well... (from the angle of the only word in the world which is absolutely politically correct; also, don't miss writings of Securityemo here; and note how I'm mostly just having a laugh from across the Baltic... though I do look a bit like a stereotypical Viking, if with undone hair and too long from last shaving)
It's just a sample size of...one, but cheese tended to induce a sort of amok in my rat. Not sure how its rarity (dairy products are supposedly a bit unhealthy to rodents after all) influenced the reaction.
Hey, I know what you mean... (it sometimes leads to slight disagreement in outlook, about what's decent; sometimes to things outright bizarre; also not to bash it of course / not that I complain - from my point of view it ends up not bad at all... heck, it can be even seen as basically a "useful fool" of sorts, helping greatly on my path to "post-history")
I still adored him, not the least because he was, despite "over the top", so authentic... what we are, what also I am.
Curiously that was also generally the case for few buddies who have very b&w outlook on the world, who need their heroes and villains b&w otherwise they get confused...
(and now I have another metaphor for TV thanks to you - just another medium for greater reach of monkey screams)
Sort of. Of course right now, and probably still for quite some time, there are no real contenders for really normal / mass markets. Maybe we have to wait for OLPC again, maybe there'll be similar "industry response" as with netbooks (and less derailed this time...); most of the world still waits for something acceptable (plus if it gets here, it should be a bit different; I expect more something between "large" tablets and smartphones (and not premium priced...), with actual phone functionality still there)
BTW, who's with me for the usual tar + feathers + shackles for one quite recent tarnishing of "I want to know what love is" by Foreigner? (NOT Mariah Carey, may Allah condemn and damn her filth)

That might be as well a citation / embracing of quite common sentiment... And from did "sandnigger" even come from?

And wormholes are almost always the result of world choices meant to ease production, most notably the work of scriptwriters or authors.
Ah, but you have yet to look at what GNU/Linux wants to offer, in its the proper & desired way... which apparently, maybe, sort of includes GNUstep ;)
(coincidentally, very related to current Mac)

There's utterly no reason to demonize measures one supports... wishes for, or even cherishes.

Sir, are you or have you ever been a member of the communist party?
Too bad not as far as with our perception of value / pleasure / money involved...

In fact, the most important is the amount of green stuff.

Hm, this "a part of that was taking away features" starts to look unsettling if, for the moment, we would consider Kindle to be a tablet...

...I just personally enjoy the heroic struggle of the "less-than" human.
And you haven't found plenty of that in the movie?
