My Walkman works for over 70 hours on one AA battery. I will _gladly_ (I'm serious here) buy MP3 player if you'll tell me which one comes close to that. Half the time could be enough...
Many peopel in small, non-english speaking countries would also loose a lot. Simply because "their" Internet (just meaning here sites in their language) is crap. No valuable content, flash ads/popups everywhere. I don't use it anymore.
And perhaps I'll clarify about Mickiewicz before it leads to confusion...
Current "international" name of PL is "Republic of Poland"...however this is a bit unprecise translation. We have a word for "republic": "republika", but isn't used in the name of the country: "Rzeczpospolita Polska"
Also, both Poland and Lithuania were closely tied parts of _one_ country - but it wasn't called Poland at all! It was..."Rzeczpospolita Obojga Narodow". Best translation of it is probably "Commonwealth of Both Nations", often simply shortened to "Rzeczpospolita" ("Commonwealth"). And this is true also for current name of Poland, which means something close to "Commonwealth of Poland"/"Polish Commonwealth", but is often shortened to "Commonwealth". Also, most importantly...current Poland considers itself, quite rightfully so, direct descendant of "Commonwealth of Both Nations". Lithuania doesn't.

There will still be solutions with OSS drivers...yeah, not many of them (out of currently sold: only Intel AFAIK, and somehow Matrox if you count, still sold, G550...but lets be serious), but still something...
And let us not forget the example of Bugatti Veyron...mostly created by VolksWagen engineers and 3rd parties unrelated much to original, pre-VW Bugatti (heck, the engine in Veyron is basically two engines from Passat). And you gotta love the fact that production of one car costs VW 4x more than the price. Not very good example in relation to Dell/Alienware though...does Deel even have engineers?;P
PS. Hmmm...it seems that one thing Hitler done good - VW. PPS. I think IU just violated Godwin's Law...
Well, VIA still didn't get their act together when it comes to PCI... (as for PCIe - I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason they're doing good is because AMD gave them working implementation and said "use it!")
I was fully agreeing with you (well, perhaps except small detail that I'm on SiS - perhaps not top performers (hmm..except PCI bandwith), but stable & reliable) up until the ending. AFAI remember, VIA _was_ getting favorable reviews during SocketA days. Even though their chipsets were often quite...shitty. At least I learned that you can't trust, when buidling computer for actual use, reviewers who build a machine from minamal number of standard components, run some benchmarks...and that's it.
And places where professors actually try to help students in their personal development, instead of adapting them to training which will acompany them later in life/job, are probably the best places to be while on Uni. Heck, large part of my first semester was about learning how to learn, second largery about presenting personal views/making your own analysis. And overally very friendly atmosphere (while we didn't adress professors with their first names, this practise did apply to Ph.D's; people coming to study from Academy of Economics (or something like that, translating - basically Uni specialized in economics) were shocked by manners of director of our institute). Too bad the circumstances there are rather unique - no need for "rat race" of any kind: there were already 30 candidates on 1 place at the entry exam point, and even if everybody would graduate, there'll still exist massive shortage.
They don't have much choice...Microsoft had essentially destryed "direct" market by driving browsers price to zero. And they need _some_ ways to fund their development.
Nothing? For your information - transports don't have to be on the same server as your "main" jabber account. You can use transports from other servers (ones that allow this). As a matter of fact, the only IM launched on my computer right now is GTalk, and I can talk to few of my ICQ and GG (local thing) contacts without a problem. (GTalk is not the only onr installed - I have also Psi; the reason is because GTalk doesn't have "register at transport" functionality, so I have to log in to GTalk server with Psi to do that - after that transports are seen simply as another contacts)
And there's one very neat thing about Google's mail/IM service - they both use the same adress. So if somebody doesn't know what Jabber is, he'll assume that thing is mail. And overall...nice to see features that I suggested (relax, I know it's certain that I wasn't the only one) right after GTalk launch implemented.
Yes, you would have near zero gravity - all what it would take was putting there some sphere and you'd have microgravity in any place of it, not just in the exact center. From the way the gravity works one can see that insides of any shallow sphere have zero-gravity in practice (but we can't forget that the Earth is not a perfect sphere...)
Sub-par PCI implementation - many high end video editing cards simply don't work, and any bandwith hungry device chuckles. Not to mention bugs from time to time. Oh yes, they're not over, for example quite current Via southbridge with SATA refusez to work with SATA2 drives.
If you're interested in the issue, you might find info about it on Plan 9 webpage (sorry, I don't have time for that) - something preciselly about mouse vs. keyboard controversy (started from the fact that Plan 9, unlike Unix, requires some use of mouse). You'll have short summary and links to research there.
Basically, when averaging all and looking at most common tasks, mouse is, in reality, much faster, HOWEVER keyboard is almost universally reported as faster. Reason? Mouse and keyboard usages occupie different parts of the brain, mouse the "lower" ones, while keyboard the "higher" ones. And this causes perception that the latter is faster - when your cognitive abilities are more occupied, you don't notice time that much...

Don't you think it's better to rely on what them thought about themselves? Both Mickiewicz and Lem considered themselves Polish.

A lot of businesses rely on stupidity of people. Usually on stupidity of consumers. This one just relies on stupidity of investors...

Probably selling old Geforces once they're not needed and buying some old PCI card when it's needed would end up much cheaper...
On the bright side, one is shielded from effects of goatse then...
So...road wide open to fight Scientologist bullshit?
Please tell me you're not serious...it would be like making Google Maps out of clouds on Earth...

Crap, is my life again at point when I'm beeing unintentionally funny? :/
I reckon a lot of "amatour" robots will do one of senses much, much better...

Prove it.
