And in some psychological studies it was shown what a powerfull effect it is. For example: basically two groups of participants were given the same photo of a woman holding her child, but one groups photo was slightly "enhanced" (bigger pupils of the mother). Guess "which" mother was more carying, loved more her child? And participants were totally unaware of this, reasons goven were how sche holds her child, her smile, etc. There's definatelly a reason this method is used in virtually every "romantic" movie scene...
While trying to impress non-PL slashdotters don't forget about typical/slow/ad ridden interfaces and that interia has quite low limit on _number_ of mails you can keep in mailbox...
I find you description of problems with mirrors much exaggerated. Perhaps tru when mountain biking, etc., but I haven't experienced any of the problems you describe when using bike in the cite, at city roads/speeds. And for the record - I DO try to look behind me if there's any doubt when turning left, but often it's not neccesary. Or, OTOH, you know there's no point in looking behind. Also, you have a view of what's going behind you all the times - however narrow it would be it might warn you from possible danger.
Uhmm...you picture whole thing too much in black & white... More often than not beeing a bit "rude" on bike is the only safe way. Lack of bike paths, narrow roads/lanes (I imagine you don't experience this that much in US...) and heavy traffic in the city practically guarantee that when you use side of the road, many drivers pretend to not notice you when passing (with traffic from other side). So practically the only safe way is to drive a bit too much toward the center of the lane, so the cars will _have to_ slow down, and wait until they can pass you - at least then they're doing it with large margin for error. Cyclist simply learned that forcing cars behind them no stop/slow down is actually safer than playing nice...
Buying credits can also potentially lead to soemthing better. At some point one could find that it's cheaper to develop more efficient/enviromentally friendly tech... Anyway, the thing that some countries ignore Kyote "complicates" this...
Well, in some way we can say he's right. Note that he sayd specifically about promoting 64-bit extensions for Intel processors, not 64-bits in general. Essentially it was Dell who made for Intel big numbers of 64-bit chips sold possible.
But wordplays are often untranslateable in direct, literal meaning (in every language). By using them in online US newspapers, editors clearly give the impression that they don't give a fvck about non-native readers who don't have Bachelor or Master of English language.

There's only MS Java there. Furthermore...where would the client be hosted? Why would I trust the one who hosts it? It's such "below radar" service that I have to trust them much, much less than Google...so I would have to host it myself. Which defeats the purpose altogether.
If the service ever fails...so what? With POP3 acces provided there isn't any problem with loosing mail (besides...we're talking about Google here. No small player. Even in unconceivable case of Google going down, their service is too big to not continue, bought by some other big player)
As for tracking...as I said, if you want privacy, encrypt, or better - don't use email.
BTW I also have account at Uni. If anybody would use it to inform us of anything (yeah, sad...) I would probably forward it to Gmail...
You're giving up your privacy the moment you're using plaintext mail, ANY mail. Anybody relying the message has acces to it.
So sorry, but you're dellusioning yourself - the only certain way is encryption. And then it doesn't matter which mail provider you're using...

Nice hardware you have there...but it gives argument in favor of Gmail. That Dell server is overall quite expensive compared to Gmail account (yes, I'm sure you're using in many other ways tha email...but this is about email)
Also I bet Gmail is more rock solid...read a bit about how they implement data safety (they have several thousands of servers...and they die all the time, permanently - but Google has taken this into account)
No SSH - big problem. Cafe at my department at Uni has totally locked down machines - you can't even run "alien" executables.
Cost of nadwith is really irrelevant in case of email...but you're kidding yourself badly if you put probability of Gmail connection going down on par with yours.
I also have all my email at Gmail - forwarded. And it seems it will be more elegant way of doing this - "import old emails" is on the voting (I guess it's only a matter of priority) on Gmail suggest page.

This oen always puzzled me...why people have so big problems with ADJUSTING MIRRORS, depending on situation? (in this case: so you'll see back right wheel) Especially given how easily they are controlled in modern cars...
I believe the main reason doesn't have muchto do with driving skills, but more with social realities. People will often "steal" parking place from somebody doing it the right way (in reverse), so they also assume it will happen to them if they would par in reverse...

EMBM on Matrox G400 was a little earlier than pixel shaders though...
When Opera resizes webpage, it does that to everything, including flash.

In case you don't realise, speed limit isn't "nominal speed". It's _LIMIT_.
Also...why cars should have a right to take city centers from pedestrians?

Not only Sony produces MD players. Same applies to disks.
