How about just an adapter like this so I can use the keyboard I'm used to for playing MechWarrior, Unreal Tournament, etc etc on my PC?

    That wouldn't work for everyone...

On a standalone TiVo, most people I know just use the video inputs, so that would require TiVo to change to the PBS station, therefore hindering its ability to let you watch live TV or record something while it does this data capture.

Also, a standalone TiVo can use both cable and a satellite signal on the same box, so the local PBS station would only have channel lineup/guide data for the cable feed, and it would still need to make a phone call to capture data for the satellite.

What is TiVo? TiVo is a lifestyle, almost. It completely changes the way you watch TV. I watch what I want, when I want. To me, this _IS_ video-on-demand.

I keep trying to buy my parents one, but they keep saying no.. Everyone that's said, "Naah, I don't need one" to me, I make them use mine for a few hours, and they completely change their mind. Unfortunately this trick won't work on people that live 1000+ miles away. :)

At this point, I almost want to be buried with my TiVo when I die (Well, not really, but you get my point)

TiVo is great for the non-technical end user. TiVo is even better for geeks who want to hack it.

Yes, Microsoft is attempting to discredit the GPL. Doesn't the GPL attempt to discredit Microsoft's business methods?

I just don't see why when Microsoft does it, it's awful, horrible, etc. but when the GPL people do it, it's perfectly acceptable.

It basically is saying that since Microsoft doesn't support Java, Java will die. I'd like to hope that's not the case. Java has some things .NET and C# do not - it's more mature, has a large developer base, and it's APIs and technologies are well thought out, spec'ed and documented.

As an example, I just started working with JavaMail a few days ago. Within 20 minutes I was reading emails and sending them. Talk about productive! .NET doesn't have anything that comes close.

The only thing for me that .NET has going for it is Visual Studio.NET. Like it or not, it's a great development environment, and one that most Windows developers are already familiar with.

  14. Re:Makes sense to me on PS2 Vs. X-Box: Winner Emerging? · · Score: 1

I have to argue that PS2 will NOT have an advantage in the online market.... Look at the Dreamcast. Everyone I know that owns one never used it to get online because they didn't want to use a dialup... So, along comes the Broadband Adapter, and we all rush out and get one. We end up with three games we can play: Phantasy Star Online, POD SpeedZone and Quake III. Well, using the BBA on PSO was a hack and a pain to set up.

    Here's a rule of thumb:

People don't want to buy the add-on hardware because the games don't use it. Game manufacturers don't want to develop for the add-on hardware because no one is buying it. Classic chicken-and-the-egg paradigm, but that's how it works.

I think an Xbox vs PS2 comparision will be much more interesting when the Xbox has had the time to mature that the PS2 has had. How many games did the PS2 launch with?
