I'm going to have to raise a big BS flag on this one. I myself lived in China during the period. How anyone could "not know" about the protests is mind boggling. Not only did I know about it, but I would go so far as to say I don't know anyone in China or from China who didn't know about the size and extent of the protests there. I think the Chinese who claimed to not know may have been pulling your leg.
On a side note, I know a few people who don't know who their Prime Minister is. There's ignorat people everywhere; your experiences could just be a reflection of the apathy felt by people in general rather than something specific to China.
If you like browsing around the web for news, you are going to be sadly dissapointed. When I was there, it felt like half of the sites linked by fark or slashdot were blocked.
It's hard to call a quacking duck a cow.
Take a look at their "system" cost that they include into the CPU price. The P4 board costs $240 at my local store, and so they add $200 to the price. The AMD board costs $98 at the same store, and they add $200 to AMD's price.
And even with that blatant cheat (which is seperated by three pages so you have to go back and forth to see it) AMD still creams P4.
because they are expensive to make. 500 lumen bulbs that last 50 hours (usually used for projectors) cost $20 each.
2000 lumen bulbs taht last 1000 hours is pretty cheap for $300. (4 times as bright, and last 20 times as long, but only cost 15 times more.)
Just reencode their VHS tapes to DVD (mpeg 2). Problem solved. Or for the slashdotters, get a HTPC running open source linux using xvid divx codec. Everything is open source so no more worries about the FCC.

If the GTA franchise is indeed going to become a Xbox360 exclusive, I foresee Sony going the way of the Sega

Most online players want as little eye candy as possible. You'd be surprised how many times i've lost enemies in the tall grass in Enemy Territory. :-(
Oh yea, the higher your FPS, the further you can jump in the Quake3 engine.

how was that redundant? There was only one post when i posted...
Maybe the DMCA will finally be trimmed down by suits from defendants like FatWallet
