It does mean that the circuit will continue to rule that way.
Also, it means that other circuits, when faced with this issue, may find this case persuasive authority.
Eventually there may be a circuit split, and the Supreme Court may choose to step in to resolve the disagreement.
But for now, it is a victory within about 10% of the federal court system.
"On March 19, 1998, Part VIII of the (Canadian) Copyright Act dealing with private copying came into force. Until that time, copying any sound recording for almost any purpose infringed copyright, although, in practice, the prohibition was largely unenforceable. The amendment to the Act legalized copying of sound recordings of musical works onto audio recording media for the private use of the person who makes the copy (referred to as "private copying"). In addition, the amendment made provision for the imposition of a levy on blank audio recording media to compensate authors, performers and makers who own copyright in eligible sound recordings being copied for private use."
Well, remember when the ipod came out, it was a 5 gb harddrive in a slighty larger case. As time went on, it grew to 10, then 20, and now 40.
Now here we are about to see the slow expansion of the smaller form factor harddrives. In 6 months you might see a 5 gb. In 5 years some will be posting the.2 inch hardrive that can 'only' hold 5 gbs.
Remember that VMWare turned down some kind of Microsoft bid last year, but they were considering an IPO.
I think this is probably a better move than an IPO, just given the lackluster performance of tech IPOs post-bubble burst. I'd take the money anyday, even though things seem to be improving somewhat.
This is great news. Finally, I can quit having to constantly put up with all the 'chunnel-heads' in my office bragging constantly about their general awesomeness. Now I can just say humorous things like "stop living in the past! Your tunnel is so 1990s it hurts!"
One question occurs to me though. Will this change the ending of Casablanca?
There is another way to make money with this.
Increase the power of the electromagnet.
People will be forced to either surrender their lose change at ths station or risk having it ripped down out of their pockets.
I guess now is the time to invest in plastic keys.

I believe you interpreted the ruling perfectly.

Well, if your grandfather were still alive today, I imagine he would be most interested medical technology.
specifically, in the next generation of Viagra, Rogaine, and the technology to keep human heads alive in jars as foretold by Futurama.
