Giving people access to the internet is like giving everyone a gun. Sooner or later someone will steal the gun unless you take care of it and keep it hidden/protected.
Everyone seems to think they need some uber connection to get their 2.5 e-mails a day faster. They seem to think it's up to the ISP to block spam and any other problems they may present because "they pay for this".
It's like going "Oi police, protect my house 24 hours a day becaus eI help pay for you". We need to start letting these people lose their PCs, let us repair them and get rich and just point out to them that it's UP TO THEM and not the ISPs.
I've never had spam and only 1 virus in about 4 years of being online. Now if I can have a record like that without doing much but updating firewalls, virus scanners and knowing that.exes are evil in all forms (ever seen a proggy run that wasn't.exe and crash?:P ), why can't others do this.
Then again most the people using e-mail can't even type without having to have someone read each key to them JUST incase they get it wrong..

There are billions of people in the world, so we all run around going "SIEG HITLER!" "YAY 9-11 ROCKED!"? No.
It may sound amazing but some of us arn't out to bomb American, but we're being accused of being criminals when we have done nothing. If I look at porn or play a game, it's MY business, I'm not looking at little girls, I'm not looking at anything illegal. Leave me be with your laws because I upset some cop in the street so he wants to try and get me back for it.
Also note that if this happens then RIAA get more ammo then they ever need, they could accuse everyone of downloading music (alot of cases would be true). They take it to court, they get a phonetap put on, you just got busted and are paying them for more lawsuits..
Telling him to rock on and ignore them, if he is as smart as you say he will always be mocked for it. Alot of us geeks did get bullied in school and now it's them exact people begging for us to fix their PCs when they go wrong.
Just tell him to remember that we'll be making thousands while the bullies clean our pools, wash our cars and beg for our money.

I guess Microsoft works is now going to be called "Microsoft - use a type writer" and they'll rename their Mac areas as "firing stations".
Now if only the RIAA would take the same idea and rename their lawsuits "Useless wastes of time".
