The biggest reason, however, is that I don't want to have to sit in an office to read and grade dozens of papers. I want to be able to do it on a plane, a train, a bus, on the beach, etc.
They have these new devices called laptops. Check them out. There those funny looking things your students bring to class.
You folks do realize that the EULA for Office says you cant use Word to write anything bad about Microsoft and you bitching because Apple puts in the standard don't use this to hack our stuff clause.
Sorry but my Lord and Savior Sarah Palin has determined that talking about end of life health care options is a "death panel" and is evil so you should all be ashamed.
Actually by law yes you need to buy as many copies as you use at one time. The ruling has been that when you buy a copy you buy a license for one instance of that song.Make as many copies as you like but only us one at a time. Interesting thing is if you bought from bad old iTunes you get the right to use on 5 computers and an infinite number of devices (as long as you own them).
Its not a business model its a marketing scam where costs are moved from the front end and hidden in the backend. Those days are over customers know what your costs are and wont stand to be RIPPED OFF by you charging 5 times your cost for prints that you push a button to order from a lab. Photographers brought this on themselves if they would have been honest and charged for the services they provide upfront instead of hiding it in print fees in order to scam extra money (the scam is the customer pays for the sitting/location work over and over again with each print).
PS I know several good photographers that have moved to an honest sitting fee and full rights to the buyer.
You do of course realize the state government has little to do with k-12 education. Thats really the problem.
School boards make all the decisions with no more qualification then getting 20 more votes then the next guy. Poor students live in poor areas which equal poor funding which means fewer teachers and less resources for those that need the most. Local control makes corruption easy to hide.
there aren't enough teachers now. How can we start firing them?
Fact of the matter is that any solution to fix failing schools will cost money they don't have (thats why their failing). Any real solution requires fixing school funding. That either means huge federal grants. (to districts full of local corruption already) or and end to localized funding with funding and control moving to the state level and that will never happen as the rich districts will never allow an even field.
Soooo Apple is more controlling because they allow apps that aren't games and independent developers. Thats like saying something is more expensive because it costs less. By the way nearly 100 million devices in use and over 1 billion apps delivered means Apple doesn't need independent developers either. Apple could easily cut them off and just license to the big boys but they don't and you think they should be berated for that.
Poor baby those mean old men gave you the chance to make millions of dollars. How cruel of them. How dare they update their OS and expand their SDK giving more opportunity to make money. Why their so cruel they might even come up with a new device that will expand the market for your apps even further making you waste your time counting money.
You just don't get it do you. This is all about consumer choice. Will the parents of that teen boy begging for a new phone chose the one with the app store full of boobie apps. Will that librarian chose a different phone because she can't tell what frequency a AP is on.
Apple makes choices it thinks will make more people chose the iPhone. If its a choice between a few thousand whinny geeks and a few million consumers the geeks are screwed. As you said "All people really want is the ability to do what they need" consumers don't give a frack about the stuff that gets talked about here. They don't need access to an API. They don't need an open OS. They don't need Flash (ok nobody needs or wants flash).
Yes I'm a geek but I already have an app that tells me AP frequencies and MAC Addresses. (os gives strength and SSID) It was free so I doubt the developer went bankrupt when it was pulled.
its not closed its moderated. In if you think thats still evil go to any unmoderated newsgroup and count the number of spam postings.
Is Linux open? NO! They don'y just let anybody add code to the kernel project do they! There are people who look at submitted code and CONTROL what gets in and what doesn't. They must be evil too huh.
And what about those control freaks that keep telling how fast to drive in a school zone or how much I can drink before I drive. Screw them If I want to operated an open air unregulated nuclear reaction in my backyard thats my decision damit.
wait, you can restrict rights for a friggin' _connector_ ? so nokia could require licensing fees from any aftermarked charger producers ?
Yeah pretty much. They can. They have. And they do.
doesn't look like so, microusb story brought some sanity in the situation.
dude there are patents and licensing fees on most connectors including USB.
doesn't look like a portable media device to me. You must have huge pockets!
They also are trying to save paper by getting students to use both sides when printing eBooks.
The biggest reason, however, is that I don't want to have to sit in an office to read and grade dozens of papers. I want to be able to do it on a plane, a train, a bus, on the beach, etc.

On the plus side that A4 powered Apple TV built on the iPhone OS sold at almost no margin code named "Frak Google" will be pretty cool.
PS Palm, Nokia, MS you might want to step back from the mobile phone market. If you get caught in this crossfire you'll be dead in seconds.
Correct its now a Battlegound!
The Apple/Google war is officially on now.
He said they NEEDED to... not that they WOULD.
Students are paying thousands of dollars a semester and its the teachers classroom.
BULLSHIT Its the students classroom, its the students university!!!!!
Have you noticed that education is the only business where the customer is always wrong.
Professors are paid by the students but the professors tell the students how to act.
Employees (profs) park right in front of the building and the customers (students) park in the next zip code.
You folks do realize that the EULA for Office says you cant use Word to write anything bad about Microsoft and you bitching because Apple puts in the standard don't use this to hack our stuff clause.
MS does have the requirements on Xbox but I don't hear any bitching
If you don't like it write your own damn OS.
you might want to double check your windows EULA. You already made said agreement.
Sorry but my Lord and Savior Sarah Palin has determined that talking about end of life health care options is a "death panel" and is evil so you should all be ashamed.
Code is information and like all other creative works that information is not and can never be owned by anyone it is the property of mankind.
It is the commercial rights to a work that can be owned not the work itself. Ther are only 3 kinds of IP ...copyrights, patents and trademarks
If there is nothing in writing the one with the most lawyers wins.
And if you have enough lawyers it doesn't even matter if it is in writing!

but of course if you were to remodel and use that plumbing again in a derivative work you would have to pay him again for that use.
