Gov can do R&D into things like cheap medicine made from easily found natural ingredients and things like that. Stuff that has tremendous use but little in the way of profit margin.
Even if a company like Merck were 100% ethically run they wouldn't do this sort of stuff because there is no profit margin.
First, quality. Is the holographic storage faster? Is it less likely to break? Can it handle a larger number of reads/writes? Second, $50 is for the 1st generation. The price comes down the quickest in the early generations, so it may achieve parity or even pass the pricepoint for current HD prices within a few years.
You wouldn't be able to stop the renting, but if we assume (for the sake of argument) that it is actually illegal to do so, then the book trading service could be shut down for encouraging illegal activity.
I read that and for a minute I was genuinely trying to figure out what you meant. A series of bears? A group of bears saying something over and over again? Then... oh. Not that kind of bear.
We've actually got a somewhat different problem in my building. The elevator software is very buggy (apparently there's a patch but it costs something like $20K to get it applied, and no one felt it was enough of a problem to pay up) and you can end up waiting an absurd amount of time for it, especially when you consider that you've got 2 elevators and 6 floors. I work on the 2nd floor, and I and many other people would be perfectly happy to take the stairs... except all the stairs are rigged with fire alarms. When we don't want to be lazy, they still force us to.
The rules are actually stricter (in a perfect world at least) for the police.
IANAL or a cop, but what I understand as far as evidence goes is:
1. Cops can't break in and search without either a warrant or probable cause. 2. Cops also can't solicit a non-cop to do it for them. 3. If I am in your house (break-in or invited or whatever) and find some evidence of wrongdoing and turn it over to the cops without them suggesting the idea or asking me to do it, they are free to use it.
I'm sure there are subtler nuances to it, but those are the basics from what I understand.
Oh yeah it sounds like an innocent man there, not one playing the odds that his massive Alaska support base will get him off of whatever he does. He *knew* it was illegal and did it anyway.
It doesn't sound like a guilty man to me. It doesn't sound like an innocent one either. What it sounds like is a guy who knows a thing or two about how trials work and is very interested in winning.
First of all, I have never met a single musician who writes music with any kind of expectation of profit. Profit is never the motive.
Profit in and of itself doesn't have to be the motive.
Creative genius can do more creation if it's paid to do the creation.
If I'm a creative genius and I'm not compensated for it, then I have to spend time doing a job that pays me money. That time is time not spent creating stuff.
From what I can find (mostly wikipedia browsing), between native and non-native there are roughly 1 billion English speakers, while there are only around 900 million Mandarin speakers.
Allegedly, a Pan Am 727 flight waiting for start clearance in Munich overheard the following: Lufthansa (in German): "Ground, what is our start clearance time?" Ground (in English): "If you want an answer you must speak in English." Lufthansa (in English): "I am a German, flying a German airplane, in Germany. Why must I speak English?" Unknown voice from another plane (in a beautiful British accent): "Because you lost the bloody war."
So I would caution thinking that because Linus Torvalds chooses comments in English for any reason other than more people speak it than Finnish.
I thought that was the point. Not that English in and of itself is necessarily a technically superior language, but rather that it's one of the more widely spoken languages in the world, with an especial dominance among the programming community.
Children will believe something if the teacher says it, to the point where if one of the other students attempts to correct the teacher when they are wrong, the other children will shout that person down. I'm sure many of you have seen or experienced this directly.
Actually... no. Quite the opposite. There were kids who just hated being in school and were happy to see anyone challenge the teacher. There were kids who had an us (kids) vs them (teachers) mentality and liked seeing someone fight the good fight. There were occasionally even a few kids that were more interested in genuine learning than in just gathering the necessary information for a good grade. None of these kids would ever bother to shout down another student.
Of course, sometimes it comes down to technique. A method I learned in school that is still sometimes useful when dealing with people is to assume a position of ignorance and then question them carefully to lead up to the contradiction.

2. Anti Abortion commercials
Can't say I've seen any of those -- and all I get is American TV (goes with being in the US I suppose).
5. Really, really bad local commercials (Halloween Costume Warehouse).
Now sometimes these are really entertaining, though rarely on purpose.

Bears repeating.

Email has become a victim of its (or is it it's)
Easiest way to remember:
ours
yours
hers
given that pattern...
its or it's?
And that actually worked for you? No offense, but you need to find smarter women to date.
.... or not.

Try 'gay' and you'll hit the jackpot.
Somehow I doubt that's quite how I'd describe it.
If the activity is illegal, claming it on your taxes is among the least of your problems.
If the activity is illegal, but a lesser crime than tax evasion, then no.
Also, you needn't declare that the income is illegal, just that it exists.
It's almost impossible to overestimate the importance of Java to Oracle
Java will help Oracle colonize the entire solar system.
Well.... he said change, and the EFF says his arguments are worse than Bush's, so I suppose that qualifies.

It's miles easier to understand than "The Dark Knight," and tremendously more emotional.
I hadn't quite gotten around to seeing Dark Knight yet, but now I'm more interested.
How in the world did we ever form civilization?
With much effort from Sid Meier.
At least the US system (as originally designed) was set up with the assumption that people would try to manipulate the process.

I've been told that the best way to get the French to speak English is to speak French... badly.
Why? Because the US and England had the first major commercial air industries.
or, alternatively (quoting from: http://www.businessballs.com/airtrafficcontrollersfunnyquotes.htm)
Allegedly, a Pan Am 727 flight waiting for start clearance in Munich overheard the following:
Lufthansa (in German): "Ground, what is our start clearance time?"

Lufthansa (in English): "I am a German, flying a German airplane, in Germany. Why must I speak English?"
Unknown voice from another plane (in a beautiful British accent): "Because you lost the bloody war."
That's logical, but it feels so passive-aggressive.
So I would caution thinking that because Linus Torvalds chooses comments in English for any reason other than more people speak it than Finnish.

It's a crime to allow her 16 year old friend to watch the act as it occurs, but not a crime to have her join.
Does that mean if the friend joins in, she has to keep her eyes closed the whole time?
