    ohh no, I punched in 10 000000000000000 (fifteen zeroes without the space) eV to joules and it came back with that answer.

    It's Correlation does not IMPLY Causation, and I believe there are significant differences between the two. As in some instances correlation does = causation, with all other differences ruled out.

    Now the DSP technology to kill the laser a microsecond before they cat gets burned. Also will need noise cancellation technology to create noise to cancel out the sound of the popping. With these two technologies, the lasers really can create a shark inches from your face, and DSP software will kill the laser before you have a chance to physically come into contact with it...

    This one is really easy... Instead of putting them on hold, just put the speakerphone on and turn down the volume giving an occasional yes or ok (in reply to the script). When the telemarketer asks a question like, "does this sound ok?", after talking for a good five minutes or so simply reply with, "I don't understand, can you please repeat everything you just said". Surefire way to get hung up on!

    Imagine you owned a business wanted to serve cereal (simplified business problem). To your horror, somebody else has already patented the business method of serving cereal in a restaurant! You are now in a lawsuit and unable to serve CEREAL to your guests! You are screwed, and the economy takes another dive... cereal patent [inthesetimes.com]

    Software == Algorithms. And algorithms (being mathmatical expressions of scientific truths), should not be patentable. Copyrightable yes, but patentable, no...

    This whole mess came about because of rulings by the Supreme Court and Federal Circuit court allowing both algorithms (mathmatical proofs if you will), and business method patents (the scarier patent from a business persons perspective) to exist. The business method patents hinder innovation in a way never before dreamed. Imagine you owned a business wanted to serve cereal (simplified business problem). To your horror, somebody else has already patented the business method of serving cereal in a restaurant! You are now in a lawsuit and unable to serve CEREAL to your guests! You are screwed, and the economy takes another dive...

    It's 5.3% recidivism, as per your source. 1 in 20 for sex offenders as opposed to 1 in 40 (for rapists), or 1 in 77 (for murderers). I would say that small percentage point increase has an appreciable effect in a population, given the nature of the crime.

    A LOT harder to code? You're talking about a cookie that is created soon after login with a unique identifier which is used to identify the person when they click on the button (then the server side code that places the order and sends out a confirmation email). I could whip up a one click ordering system in a day... Hardly novel by any standard, and much easier than you think...

    Very Insightful! I never thought about the one click shopping in games that existed before Amazon's patent. And, since we're all using fiat money, there is little difference between a fiat money transaction in a game using one click, and a one click transaction using real life fiat money.

    Actually, there seems to be some saying .44 and some saying .41, and both calibers are coming from credible sources (NIH says .41, Amazon book says .44, another source says he used a .45 bore patched with a .41 cal ball). If the later is the case (.41 ball in a .45 bore), the velocity figures would need to be increased, as the volume of black power would be higher than a gun having a .41 bore.

    He was shot with a .41 from all sources I can find. Also, I completely agree that he may have used a muzzle loader and loaded it himself with whichever quantity of black power he decided to use. Even if this is the case, it would not significantly increase the velocity of the round, we're still talking about a range of 50 - 70 foot pounds total.

    I show the actual velocity figures for a .41 black powder cartridge and get marked redundant... Thanks Slashdot... Maybe everyone knew that they produced a paultry 51 ft. lbs. and I'm just talking to the wall. (51 ft. lbs. is 50 ft. lbs. less than a 22 rimfire!).

    Lincoln was shot with a .41 derringer, possibly using a rimfire cartridge filled with black power link
    It consisted of a 130 grain lead bullet propelled at 425 ft/second and had a total energy of right around 52 ft. lbs.

    Compare that to a modern day 40 S&W cartridge (used by most police today), that sends a 135 grain modern day Jacketed Hollow Point expanding bullet at a velocity of 1200 ft/second producing around 432 ft. lbs. of energy out of a 4 inch barrel (slight loss of velocity for a shorter barrel). This would have gone clean through the head, leaving an approximately .8 inch diameter hole as opposed to the .41 inch hole left by the derringer that did not penetrate

    Sure we didn't pick up a signal FROM THEM, but are we sending a signal to them in return? Kind of odd that we think they might be transmitting to us we we aren't transmitting to them, kind of a double standard there...
