    Could somebody who knows WTF they are doing tell me if it's possible without using an applet to get this to open a socket back?

    PHP has had client-oriented socket functions since PHP3. More recently, server-orinted socket functions have made it into PHP.

    Not to troll, but IMO PHP is a rapidly advancing language and a force to be reconcilied with.

    500mbits is PLENTY OF BANDWIDTH, slashdot would have a hard time bringing that down.

    Lets put this into perspective:
    T1-1.5mbps $200 per month
    T3-45 mbps
    Oc3-155mbps
    oc12-622 mbps $20,000 per month

    An OC12 gives 1.47 Petabytes of bandwith/time per month

    It could very well be that Slashdot it self only has an OC-12.

    Hardly Destroyable...

    Mozilla Firefox 0.8 is currently taking up 63 MB of RAM, and that's just a browser with no media players, mail clients, task schedulers, etc. What kinda crack are you running firefox on? firefox runs at about 19mb of ram... compared to IE's 20mb

    I really do hope that they include the hardrive... It is the only reason i would buy a game console, otherwise you have to pay hundreds of dollars in accessories, and it adds general value to the console. It would be a typical microsoft move to not incorperate it.

    I learned assembly at 10, (notice the UserId), and im 14 now and learning 3rd generation languages. Although I would not recomend assembly as a first language, it is a powerful tool to be able to use. First teach the kid some basic computer science (ie boolean algebra, how to use xor and not or to make stuff :), then let him try out a few languages. --Joel

    Microsoft... beats the Return-on-investment pants off alternitives

    Okay lets do the math, Linux cost Zilch, $0, Windows .Net Server is $400-600 right there, if Linux even gets you $0.01 (one cent), the return in the investment is infinitely greater than windows... If Mircorsft gives you $1000 return, thats only ~166%, comparatively to linux's infinite return.

    Ah the wonder of Open Source!
