A simple javascript function which I use on all of my AJAX Apps will create an XMLHttpRequest object in just about every major browser. Excuse the horrible bastardization of exceptions. From the looks of the article they are using something quite similar.
function createXMLHttpRequest() {
try { return new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e) {}
try { return new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e) {}
try { return new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch(e) {}
alert("XMLHttpRequest not supported");
return null; }
The real benefit is the $50 is relative to the production cost, which is about $2 (Maximum) Compared to the same production cost of movies which are sold (by way of ticket) for $10.

What about when your kid reads Slashdot and uses OpenBSD with encrypted volumes at 15 years old and runs his browser in a chroot jail with connections being routed through TOR to a server via an SSL Tunnel?
I will most likely get modded down for this but it needs to be stated, this is fallacious reasoning. Your assuming the state of life as of today implies favorable conditions in the past.
"Light the flame throwers! You want division, we'll give you division and angry, unrelenting defensiveness until you're stuffed with it. We'll take our cues from Karl Rove's playbook and make winning a living hell."
Damn it, Have you no sence at all? THIS is exactly why our nation is so fucking divided. This is the exact same mentality of the Right Wing. Im definately would not endorse Bush, but why does everybody have to be so damn angry at each other. THIS is the problem. There has to be some middle ground between the two divides.
I'd spend the next four years hacking back at them in the media like they did for eight years of Clinton's term.
Haven't we learned something? An eye for an eye? Are we not as simplistic as Hamaurbi? This is not the way you change the world. We must find a middle ground in tollerance.
"Sure, we Americans love to complain about war deaths that save many more lives, but what about the 44,670,812 innocent children we've killed since 1973?"
Extremely disconcerting. In addition, 885 prisoners have been executed since 1973. All together, 7254 death sentences.
Coming from a conservative, we should not demonize either side. The phrase "Life is sacred" applies to ALL human life. Not just babies, but terrorists, felons and everyone else.
Justice requires an absence of hypocrisy.

Masker writes "This is just too funny. Alan Keyes, the Republican candidate for Senate in Illinois, who is running against Democrat Barack Obama, wants to ban political polling for 'a certain period' before the election, since such polls are 'manipulative and degrading and damaging to our political system.'
Could his opinion be influenced by a recent poll that shows Keyes trails by 45 percentage points behind Obama?" Pudge: Could be. But it could also be influenced by the fact that polls are often wrong; they influence how people vote (people are less likely to vote for someone who "doesn't have a chance"), and polls get reported on more than issues, which can't be good for anyone except the pollsters and whoever happens to be leading the polls.
Does anyone else find the fact that almost a third of this post is commentary?

"When the EXE is run, it extracts it all and runs the PHP script with the parameters passed on the command line. There are some simple options you can add to the start of your PHP script to tell it to include other files, and if it is a console or GUI app (to show or hide a console)."
So your saying this is basicly a self-extracting archive that executes when run? PriadoBlender (not for production use still in alpha) is a open-source php-compilier/packager that uses the cross-platform PHP Embed API and PECL's bompiler to package the whole shebang in to a execuatable, totally self included and modified to run without conflicts to existing PHP installations. There was a old program (non-opensource) PHPCompilier that did the same thing.
I think MC Lars had it better:
