I think that has something to do with stores too. The only place I get smaller denominations (under $20.00) is from a store after having broken a larger bill. If those stores gave me coins rather than bills, then I'd be using bills. I don't really care either way.

Personally, I can't wait till the day when anyone can recieve money via a debit transaction. I'd love to be able to pay my rent or loan a friend money with the swipe of a card. I hate carrying cash.

I'd be a little more satisfied with the arrangement if I were you.

Depends what you've got under the hood though. I'm running a powermac G4 with 2 10K rpm SCSI hard drives and they seem to take a little longer to spin up than a 7200RPM IDE drive. So, coming back from sleep takes me about 9 seconds. Loading the OS is pretty quick though. Just to take a guess I'd bet somewhere between 30 and 45 seconds till I can actually load apps. I don't really feel like rebooting at the moment. Too much going on.

I don't know, but the 300mhz g3's we have at the school I work for do just fine in the internet cafe. They play music, videos, surf the net and everything just fine. I wouldn't want to use Final Cut or Photoshop on them, but beyond that they run pretty well. The only thing that makes me want to upgrade them is their lack of booting to a firewire drive for easy system restores.

I completely agree with this. One thing that has always driven me crazy with linux is that I never know where software installs to after I install it. It seems like something this rudimentary should have been better thought out. Now, if autopackage can help solve this dilemma by creating a standard location for software installs, then I'm all for it. Especially if it is able to install to the system or to a home folder, which seems to be the case.

This is the type of thing that draws me to OS X, It's got all of the functionality of a *nix operating system, but things are a lot more polished. Don't get me wrong, OS X still has its problems, but for the most part it just works really well.

That raises an interesting question for me... Are businesses able to be held accountable for consorting with spammers that don't comply with anti-spam legislation? Spammers may all be halfway around the world where their actions are legal, but a lot of businesses have headquarters in places where spam is technically illegal. If the businesses were to be held liable for spammers actions when they signed on with them, then maybe the businesses wouldn't want to take the risk...

I know there are holes in this idea, but it seems like a starting poitn anyway...

I have not seen any for firefox so far. Perhaps we should start doing that. Firefox is becoming the better mousetrap and at its rate it will become more and more easy to convince people to switch.

I have seen some buttons like this, but they don't actually say that the site is better viewed in Firefox. I think that would help, but I also believe it would be good to advocate all standards compliant browsers rather than just Firefox. If we can get each standards compliant browser up to the 8% marketshare that Firefox has, we'd be in pretty good shape.

Absolutely. Writing code to match standards is just good practice, and down the road there's a good chance it will save the client money when more work needs to be done or they do a redesign of a part of the site.

I don't remember reading anywhere that the overall charge would be any more than another designer would charge, I just saw that the bill would be more detailed. The designer may have a hard time explaining that bill to the customer, but it's not as if they're being overcharged.
