KDE 3.4 runs fine on a PPro200 with 192MB of RAM here; if you turn off the eye candy. Also use pre-emption. Make sure DRM is enabled and working. That is plenty of power to run KDE with several UI enchancements.
Are you sure you dont live in Canada? As far as I know Bush didnt cut their taxes. I know 65% of the american public got theirs cut. But maybe they are all millionaires or something.
Because pollution should be based on an entire countries size, shape and economy structure? Thank you for proving my point.
Kyoto is a joke based on its merits. By definition it is harsher on larger countries where it could take decades to for an economy to recover. The US has some of the most stringent regulations in the world, from scrubbers to car exhaust. On a square mile basis we are in the middle of the pack for pollution production. Some states are in the bottom quarter. Some states lead the world like California and New York. (And those state is as liberal as it gets;)
Get the facts, dont repeat meaningless BS without understanding both the problem and a viable solution.
The worlds biggest polluter? Isnt that Europe? Oh wait. Lets take one of the largest countries in the world and spit on them because they have one of the largest, most successful economies in the world. Lets see how much the US pollutes per state or even per factory/car. That would be an accurate assessment.
Better yet, Bush is president, its his fault for everything. That sounds easier.
Kyoto is a flat out joke. Because everyone's economy is different. It is also significantly more unfair to larger countries. Go read the accord.
This makes no sense to me. Its no suprise its coming out of California. As far as I know there is not a lot of home grown gasoline. All gas that is consumed is already accounted for and taxed. How on earth would putting GPS in every car be any more helpful than our current system. People already get taxed on their usage. With this propsed system, people in hybrid cars that actually pollute less could get taxed more if they drive further.
On the flip side I find it curious that there is no ranting about the democratic party where this idea originated. If a republican would have proposed this, There would already be 1000 comments as opposed to 74. Although I am impressed at how quickly someone tied this into the Patriot Act, indirectly blaming Bush. =)
I think we just have to face the fact that there are people out there, mainly gnomer's and fluxbox users that have too many false claims about KDE. I have gotten tired of correcting them.
I have come to the conclusion that if they say that KDE is bloated, let them be. If they were to use KDE and become a developer they would have a chance of convincing people that technology points such as kparts and ioslaves are useless and KDE should just be a WM. Think of where they could potentially direct KDE development.
My radeon 9500Pro, 9800Pro and mobile get full acceleration with the closed drivers.
Although the pace of driver releases suck the 9500Pro has been the best card I have ever owned. I bought it 2.5 years ago for $180, and it still plays doom3, ut2004 and quake3 in 1024x768 with all options maxed. Some games run at 1152 with no problems. I have personally never had a card that lasted so long or was as dependable.
Having said that, my next card will be an nvidia as I like to upgrade X faster than ATI can release drivers =)
Nvidia at the time I bought my 9500, did not have a competing card. But they have made up a lot of ground since then. I think my 9500 though has at least a year left in it.

Very true.
It has very little to do with Linux directly.
False, linux is by far the largest user platform for xorg.
What's EVEN more frightening is that they've wanted to have talks with the US for years, but the US has refused any direct negociations with them.
BS, negotiations were ignored because they werent negotiations, they were blackmail and scams. NKorea want financial or economic benefits in return for not building a nuclear stockpile. It was a joke. They actually wanted cash to stop!
In case you dont know, building nuclear weapons can take decades or research and testing. These are not new revelations in the last 3 years. The very fact that these totalitarian countries desire weapons to protect them from free countries should be enough to classify them as a threat to humanity.
Not sure where you get your news from, try cross checking with multiple sources before you accept "news" as fact.
One of the reasons Iraq was invaded was its moral and military climates. Both were very low, making it an easy win.
I am not sure what you mean by us not invading fast enough, Nearly every country in the world (including Iran) was speechless. We minimized casualties on both sides and made sure we had the weapons and manpower to stay in control. (Go ahead make the typical bogus counter argument). Sounds like you dont have a military background...
Its obvious you are a flaming liberal but at least let facts help you form your opinions and not let opinions form your facts. We wont attack North Korea because they have a significantly larger army, better weapons (courtesy of China and USSR) and a brainwashed public. 2/3 of Iraq hated Saddam. This was common knowledge. NKorea is another case.
War is ugly brutal and ends up hurting people on both sides, innocent or evil. If you don't believe in war, thats great. There is nothing wrong with that. I dont either unless its a last resort. What is your alternative that has been proven to work? Economic sanctions and threats historically dont work. In fact they can have the opposite effect, ask NKorea. That bastard (or one of his minions) will remain in power until someone removes them. His people simply dont know any better. Look how far South Korea has come...
The KDE code isnt the problem for a windows port. Its things like glibc and graphics translations, or the lack of a fork implmentation in windows.
Lots of code will be backwards compatible but there were a lot of workarounds that were made for Qt3 that now have proper implementations in Qt4. There are also better ways of drawing and db connectivity that will greatly improve performance and scalability.
Qt4 is really a great infrastructure, there is no equivalent in the OSS community that uses modern design patterns and empowers developers with so many options. I think this will be a significant blow to GTK in the future. Time will tell.
I think we are a ways off from that. It would take considerable effort to port KDE off of cygwin and run it natively in windows.
Having Qt4 for windows (free version) could have some interesting effects in the future. If KDE does get ported over and some people can try it out without installing windows, they may find it usable and be more likely to switch to free platform. Most suits that I know still think the state of the linux DE is similar to fvwm or fluxbox, hand configuring and limited.
KDE wont use Qt4 until KDE4 which is at least a year off yet though.
You really need to take some psychology classes. Sex, in nearly every species on this earth, most definitely including humans, has the underlying motive of domination. Ted Bundy may have been a bad example, but there is definitely a corelation between sex, domination and violence against women. If there wanst, you would expect to see an even split for sexual offenses between men and women.
Why is the incentive for me, or anyone else, to switch to Linux
Well if you have a family like me with kids that download anything and everything you would know exactly why to use linux. I got tired of cleaning spyware and adware from the PC. We never get worms, virii or system freezes.
For our multi media, we don't use 7.1 sound but we do have a 6800 and it works fine. DVDs, music and a few games run great. I will say this though, it completely depends on the distribution you use. Linux isnt a gamer OS just like windows is not a server OS.
Use what works for you, you shouldn't need to look for people to justify your decision.
If you want to dip into the community well, you better be prepared to put more back in. If that is to onerous then you have zero right to use it.
Actually that is a statement not in compliance with the GPL. There is no obligation that you must always contribute code back to the community or maintainers, thus anyone has every right to use it. I can create a program with GCC and use it home, never contributing the code to anyone. Its mine, I wrote it. I am in effect, a user. There is nothing immoral or unethical about that. _But_ if I try to distribute that code or sell it, I can then be in violation of the GPL.
On a side note, if the GPL was really about "freedom" in the hippy-rms sense, couldn't we just do whatever we wanted to with it assuming it has zero negative side effects on anyone? Or would that invlove "ownership" and thus be taboo?
I looked up MSI motherboards and found three entries, though none for my particular motherboard.
There is a big difference between it "working" and it having drivers... My linux laptop has to use the generic IDE support. It works but its slow as hell. Kinda like running X in VESA mode...
Ill let someone else be the canary in the coal mine =) Let me know when manufacturers start releasing drivers/source/docs and I might try it out.

Or ultimately, generating offspring, though likely no animal but us consciously thinks of that.

Uh what card do you have? I have been using a 9800Pro and a 9500Pro with DVI exclusively since last August... Did you specify the right BusID?
CPU load. SCSI puts much less of a load on your CPU than (s)ata does.
That completely depends on the controller used. SATA unlike PATA, can easily reach or exceed specs for SCSI in terms of speeds/latency/load.
