Well said. I was doing the fulltime corporate bullshit job until 2 years ago. Called it quit one day, took time off, traveled, did a certification, and waited for better job and better people. Couldn't be happier. On top of that, now I am purely on contract basis (full time offer was there though) - works wonderfully well - for me, as well as the people I work for.
It's amazing to feel much better about your work, your skills and hence yourself - just by being in the right place. I wish I had done this earlier, though.
>> Finally, we take a Windows Task Manager measurement of how much memory is being used at startup and after those eight tabs are loaded. The eight tabs are the same as in the last set of tests--basically, each browser's home page, and then the Google home page, Lifehacker, Gizmodo, and YouTube thrown in for good browser-dragging measure.
Not sure how that would make any measurement thorough.
>> Think it won't work? It already does. Look at your cellphone. You don't own it, you don't own any of it's data, you rent it, for a couple of small monthly fees, and some small "pay per use" fees.
You may be surprised, but not EVERYONE uses iphone.
No. It's not at all about the evil corporation. They do play a small role in the overall theme of the movie, but to call it "Another Evil Corporation movie" is like calling The Matrix another "bad guys v/s good guys" movie.
Yes. But it's little different in this case. Show me an example where Nintendo/MS/Sony have rejected something which is:
1. Available on other platforms
2. Banned/disapproved on the grounds of "duplication of functionality"
Apple's decision reeks of nothing but anti-competitive behavior, no matter how it's spun.
wow. what a twisted way to blame the small timers.
Of the three of the 'big four', I have shitty experience with AT&T and Verizon. They have "the best network/fewest dropped calls" only in their ads. Don't get me started on their pathetic customer service, their lock-ins, they charges. T-mobile is godsend compared to those two.
Now talking about your 'great phones' argument - in my opinion, that is the crux of the problem. In fact, AT&T and Verizon are out-muscling other small time providers just because they have big bucks and get the 'best' (I wont call them the best, but that's another discussion) phones, and in turn, screwing up others who don't have that much of money.
Fuck 'free' phones - they are never 'free'. and fuck AT&T and Verizon. I will never ever do business with them - even if I have to give up my mobile phone.
It's still interesting to see how far "ooh, that's shiny and popular - I must buy it" crowd will go before the realize Apple is working against their hard-earned money. On the other hand, as far as they keep on giving money to Apple, Apple's not giving fuck about few who complain is pretty obvious.
I am sure raising concerns about a company making shitload of money and then threatening bunch of guys discussing something about your device with DMCA is definitely arbitrary moral judgment.
So, in your opinion, 'right' means making shitload of money. Closed/open/lock-in/lawsuits/suicide/secrecy does not figure at all in that. And that's the reason I mentioned singing, and not making money.
I am sure you believe Briney Spears is one of the best singers ever!
Who is arguing they have the best selling music players and best selling phones? We are not debating popularity here. We are debating behavior of the company.

I guess its time for "alreadyonadnroid" (or "alradyon" tag. Just to stop this iphone bullshit.
/. was different than gizmodo. *sigh*
I thought

True. Not everybody has succumbed to the RDF?? Unlike US media and public, others still have balls? That's SO WRONG, man!
Now pass on some of that kool-aid you are drinking. I am running out of them.

Then your problem lies elsewhere - not with javascript or browser.

But you can still be anti-competitive.
And yet, they sold millions of songs WITH DRM. Talk about having cake and eating it too!

And when did I say they did not?
Still waiting? Like - for 10 years?
Well, so your assumption is a fact now? All I know is that they did not sell DRM-ed music.
umm.. then, Amazon must have sold DRM-ed digital music before they came up with free digital music, right?
>> If you're wearing a business suit you are most definitely not free.
Well, isn't that the irony? Even the business suit seems like angel of freedom, in this scenario.

Well said, sir!
And you know what - Apple has not learnt anything from past mistakes. Android will do the same what PC did to them yeas back. Slowly, but surely.
The problem is that some people keep on eating bad apple - and then going crazy about how great it tastes.
Nope. More like how they are revolting against the US/UK/Allies.
