[...] but then again the Mac is wasting disc space by having Apache installed but disabled by default, not to mention that you *did* have to wait for it to install, it was just done during the system install [...]
Just a small detail: You don't "install" the OS when you get a Mac. You plug it in, your power it on, it works.
So yes you are right, Apache is taking space on the hard drive of every Mac user (unless they deleted it). But enabling Apache is a simple checkbox, too. How much room does Apache take, anyway? I'd guess it's no more than one or two MP3 files, so who cares?
So, a company doing a half-assed job of "porting" a game to the Mac should make me want to buy it?
Cider is so demanding on the hardware that it can't even support the GMA950 GPU for the Mac. Strangely enough, all Mac minis have GMA950 and so do all the previous generations of Macbooks.
That's a bit of a brain-dead decision on EA's part to drop maybe a third of Mac users, given that we're supposed to be about 8% of gamers at most (if we believe the usual numbers).
The worst part is, GMA950 is enough if you run the Windows version. And on top of that there's SecuROM.
Windows games on Cider doesn't equal a Mac port, EA. Sorry but my money will go to Blizzard. They make real Mac versions of their games. Starcraft II isn't even finished and yet they are already assured of one sale on my part.
Old SCUMM games could be played with a touch screen (Nintendo DS, iPhone/iPod touch), not sure about DeathSpank...
Also, the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii all have USB ports and can support keyboard and mouse. I wish publisher would stop assuming that console = gamepad and make console games that require keyboard+mouse.
These aren't exotic accessories that cost a fortune and are only available from a handful of manufacturers.
Ok, I just skimmed over TFA, but I didn't see any mention of the targeted platforms for this.
Will a great game be once again limited to Microsoft Windows and/or Xbox 360 or will it also be available for Macs, possibly Linux and hopefully Wii, Nintendo DS, PS3, PSP?
"Find a new ISP" is easier said than done. A lot of people have absolutely zero choice when it comes to high-speed internet.
I do agree that the internet as a whole as more bandwidth than in the 90's, however the usage (IMO) is currently growing a lot faster than the available capacity (again, torrents, p2p, youtube, hulu, voip, spam, bots, etc - and that's not even mentioning things like legal online music stores, video stores, 10MB Flash "websites", internet radio, etc).
Back in the mid 90's we didn't have hordes of people downloading crap from torrents and P2P, we didn't have the masses watching videos on YouTube, Hulu and the like, and spam was at much lower levels.
It doesn't matter if your game doesn't use much bandwidth if the "tubes are clogged".
But if the future of games is to keep playing GameVersion+1, then count me out (unless the theme is similar but the gameplay changes, i.e. Zelda, Metroid).
OLED screens are on their way out because internet speeds are getting faster and cheaper every year.
Intel will fail at selling quad-core processors because Logitech just introduced an optical 4-buttons mouse with a scroll wheel and a touch pad.
Microsoft Windows Vista will start selling like hot cakes once Windows 7 is out because it's going to rain on launch day.
Wow, this IS fun! Now where's my paycheck?
Is the CPU+motherboard cheaper than an Intel D945GCLF? (i.e. 81.00 $USD).
Doesn't intel have prior art on such things?
Great, even the Chinese are taking marketing tips from intel now.
Waiter! There's holes in my rice!
Won't somebody think of the ads!

I agree, Mission Impossible 2 is the worst of the series.
Just because someone mentions SecuROM doesn't mean he's going to pirate it.
I, for one, won't be buying it because of SecuROM and because EA are using Cider instead of making a real Mac port.
Monkey Island 2?

Heck, how about an iPhone/iPod touch version?
That's their own fault, putting up access via the intertubes and all.
I think you're confusing frustration with desire/needs/patience.
Especially since the NXT can be hacked (I assume) like the previous Mindstorms version.
So what you're saying is that the next version of the iPod touch may be cheaper than this (when taking all the modules into account)?
If the next version has the camera and GPS, that is.
Hey, I found one from august too.

Cut him some slack, his C64 can't do italics.
Oh crap, I thought these were Raisin Bran.
Then I'm not buying IBM flash memory, end of story.
I see. In my mind, 3 years ago would have meant something like Opera 5.2 or something. I guess I was wrong about the version.
