Here's the current situation: - Email works everywhere. There's no "Microsoft email vs Google email" problems. You have an email account, you can send and receive email from other users with an email account. It's all compatible, world-wide. - Instant messaging doesn't work everywhere. AIM, MSN, ICQ, SMS... all incompatible. It's a mess. - Voice calls doesn't work everywhere. Skype, Google Voice... all incompatible. It's a mess. - Video calls doesn't work everywhere. Skype, Facetime... all incompatible. It's a mess.
If we can't even agree on a standard for even text messaging, forget about voice calls and video calls.
What we need to do is agree on a standard that can do all this: text messages, files transfers, audio calls, video calls, from one to multiple users for each of those.
Same thing here, here in Quebec I don't know anyone who ever had AIM. On the other hand, 99% of my friends are still using MSN. And friends on other networks are never online.
Because the way I see it, when you use IRC, Usenet, ICQ/MSN/etc it's because you need to talk. The technology is there to help you communicate and FaceBook is communication for the sake of communication, i.e. there's no actual information involved.
Does anyone bother people via phone, email and IM about things they like and dislike, all day long?
FaceBook is just another way for people to rant about things, just like blogs. Just because everyone is saying something doesn't mean that others are listening.
Hum, I guess that was a rant...
Soylent Green is p... I mean, Slashdot is FaceBook!
But if the system could check itself in real-time, it could compare the running copy with the ROM (supposedly clean) copy and "reboot" the bad parts while the user is continuing what he's doing.
USB-to-video is exactly what I don't want. What I want is a quality (i.e. ViewSonic, not some no-name brand that will stop working in six months), small LCD monitor with a digital video input.
Those 8", 800x600 ViewSonic digital photo frames would be perfect if only they had a DVI-D input.
The problem is, they don't offer those same LCD panels as monitors, even at higher prices.
I don't care if an 8" 800x600 ViewSonic digital photo frame cost 60$ and the same display cost 80$ as a monitor.
The digital photo frame also needs firmware and all, so it should be the most expensive product to begin with. By adding a digital video input to their digital photo frames, they'd sell to two target markets in one shot. It can't cost much to add a digital-only input port (I'm not asking for a VGA input).
Not only that, but why can't they add a DVI-D/HDMI/mini-DP input on those nice digital photo frames? They'd make really nice, low-cost secondary monitors.
No, I don't want a stupid secondary monitor that goes through USB, can only display nearly-static content because it doesn't have enough bandwidth for video and requires a special driver on top of that.
Not the same thing. MP3.com made the copies and made them available to the end-users.
In the case of Amazon and Google (and soon Apple too, if all the rumors about the huge data center are true), the end-users are the ones who upload their music.
I dunno... maybe they could BUY THE AMAZON KINDLE! ONLY 139 DOLLARS! insert random ads into the THE NEW IPOD NANO! AVAILABLE TODAY! songs you're trying to listen to.
667, neighbor of the beast.
I knew there was a typo in mine. It says "...but the geek shall inherit the earth".
Mythbusters?
As long as it's not Plaid.
Why? It's not a store where they sell APPL shares. /duck
Down is up, right is left, B, A, B, A, Start.
Wait, what?

Robot controlling doors? Let's just hope they don't come equipped with GPP.
And before MSN, everyone was on ICQ.

Why are you even mentioning Bill Gates?
The real question is: Is Mark Zuckerberg is even more rapacious than Steve Ballmer?

This quote should be added to the list of problems with the Mythical Man-Month.
Who cares? He's a Nobody!
The problem here isn't Bing. It's Facebook.
A rock inside the SkyDome is worth about 1 cent. A rock inside the Rogers Centre is worth about 10 dollars.

Because too few developers know about mod_rewrite?
And if you like fish sticks in custard, look behind you. There may be a blue phone box.

Why is there never any photos on those big websites?
