Thats why I buy shares in companies which own nuclear power plants. Its cleaner than solar and has economies of scale. Yes, I said cleaner than scale...
What does, "at the hardware level" mean anyway? Hardware is just frozen software. If you're talking about at the very basis of a computer, "it" doesn't understand anything but low voltage and high voltage, that is, binary. Anything else on top of that is really all the same.
That's probably why they don't require you to exclusively license it to them. You are free to sell your ideas to others, in fact they encourage it. Read the FAQ.
BT says to Shell, "Yeah we're going to stop selling into the multibillion dollar CA market, we'll pull out right after you do." Not going to happen.
The market always seeks equilibrium. It won't be cut and dried like your example, it'll be subtler, as in "Let's spend more resources in other states." The results of which are hard to predict, but unlikely to be good for Californians.
Because there are morons out there that confuse the sound file with the power behind podcasting... like you.
The audio file isn't the podcast. It's the combination of the audio file with the RSS feed that allows you to subscribe to receive the latest 'casts and automatically sync them up to your portable device of choice. That's a podcast. The word 'recording' obviously doesn't apply here.
Sorry if I'm rude, but I've read the same exact lame ass comment like yours about a jillion times on slashdot.
Then you are paying too much for items that you could get cheaper by using an auction sniping tool. It's not just about whether you win the auction, it's also how much did you waste?
There is no possible way to justify software costing 3 Grand.
Sure there is, it's called "the market."
If people are willing to pay that price, it's justified.
Even at 500 dollars, I will just go and download it on mininova.
You're not their target market. I don't really think they care if you download it, since all it's likely to do is influence your buying decisions in the future (you or someone like you). However, a production studio of any size and legitimacy would not risk their entire business just to save $500 or $3000 on software.
Expensive software is exactly why people pirate stuff anyway. Why dont people learn this?
Why should they have to "learn this" when they are making money selling it at the prices they choose?
Just because you can't afford it or won't pay it doesn't mean no one's buying it.
Typical Slashdot user myopia. "If I'm not doing it, no one is!"
If you sell your stuff cheaper, people will actually BUY it.
Yeah, why not give it away for free and make your profits up in volume?!
Your argument makes no sense unless you can prove the marketshare was attributable to the gamecube being purple with a handle, and not due to the other problems it had compared to the xbox/ps2.
I think the Wii is going to do very well if it has a good number of games rolling out with it that make the nunchaku fun to use... I personally am waiting for the Wii and not going to buy xbox2/ps3. I am mostly a PC Gamer, so the only reason I would buy a console system is if it had something uniquely cool about it like the Wii controllers.
Where in that excerpt does it give them the right to tax us TO PAY FOR SOMEONE'S PIPE DREAM as in this case?
Thats why I buy shares in companies which own nuclear power plants. Its cleaner than solar and has economies of scale. Yes, I said cleaner than scale...
No you didn't.
The part where your power is turned off because no one is generating it for you any more.
place by not paying the bill 6 months in a row. It's amazing, your monthly electric costs will drop to 0 very quickly!
As will your energy usage!

Yeah right...

It reminds of that manuscript recently dug up from the 14th century.
Which manuscript?
Sometimes government-mandated values work for the greater good.
"Sometimes" isn't enough to justify them getting involved EVERY TIME.

The market always seeks equilibrium. It won't be cut and dried like your example, it'll be subtler, as in "Let's spend more resources in other states." The results of which are hard to predict, but unlikely to be good for Californians.
Why is this so hard?
Because there are morons out there that confuse the sound file with the power behind podcasting... like you.

Planning.
Maybe you don't want your kid to shoot himself with your gun.
I'm as libertarian as they come, so I think the more safety OPTIONS there are for guns, the better.
Now, a federal law mandating the use of these bullets would be something I would oppose.
Please explain how AOL knew what your new amex card number was?
Then you are paying too much for items that you could get cheaper by using an auction sniping tool. It's not just about whether you win the auction, it's also how much did you waste?
His bank couldn't refuse the transaction because it wasn't billed from AOL.com but as a point-of-sale transaction.
Uh huh, right. Four words:
"My card was lost."
Let's see AOL or anyone else continue to charge it once the old number is invalidated.

The knife cuts both ways. If you want to make a glass elevator to get press, you can expect press when that same elevator fails spectacularly.
Yeah... hilarious the first time someone pointed out this type of coincidence.
Now it's just lame.
"And if a medium sized animal crosses in front of me while doing high-speed, it's likely I'll be maimed."

This was hilarious the first 1000 times I saw it posted under previous Monad stories.
It's especially lame making fun of a name that has already been changed.
What if this false alarm happened every other week at every other airport? Still a reasonable trade-off?
So you feel a successful test is one that shuts down the entire airport?
You sound like a Perl wizard.
(I'M KIDDING!!! I love Perl.)
So "the bitchslap" is your idea of transparency?
