"... a fraction of real time...". This does not necessarily mean in real time. 3/2 is a fraction, as is 1/2. So it could either be slower, equal to, or faster than real time to infringe.
It sounds as if the device is configured to self-destruct upon attempted tampering. This works for me; just tamper with it and *poof* no more Big Brother watching you:)

Since WHEN has prior art stopped any company from patenting something?!?!?! Although it is *supposed* to, it does not.
Software patents in and of themselves are not evil. It is the malicious use of them and blatent disregard of prior art that makes them evil.
