While 'kleenex' may be rather ubiquitous, is it used as a verb? I've certainly never heard of it used like that.

As for 'Xerox', it's known of here in the UK, but is rarely (if ever) used as a verb. Google, on the other hand, certainly has been verbed and has entered common usage over here - even non-techies now know that it's the best available and seem to be incorporating it into their speech just like the /. crowd.

  2. Google's new look on Google Updates Its Face · · Score: -1, Redundant

I happen to like the new look interface. Although the loss of our beloved tabs may take a little getting used to, it all seems to look a bit 'cleaner'. Much better than some search engines, who seem to place more emphasis on their adverts than on the actual reason people come to their site in the first place - to search. Good to see Google know what users want.

  8. Tiscali UK on How Much Broadband Usage is Too Much? · · Score: 1

I've recently discovered, to my cost, something very similar to what's been described here. Despite paying 30/month for a 512kb/s connection, it would appear that I'm not allowed to use this connection as much as I would like during a month. Tiscali believe that I've been using it excessively, and have taken the rather drastic step of slashing my connection speed to just under 100kb/s. Surely this isn't on? If I'm paying for what is advertised as 512kb/s, shouldn't I have also been told in those adverts that I can't use much during the month?

Finally, a little bit of decent information on this HP iPod. Instead of speculating, we can at least comment on the fact that Apple's gonna be making money despite the HP branding, not to mention getting iTunes onto the desktops of HP's WinTel line. Cheers for the link.

The best thing about the Honda "Cogs" advert, is the fact that absolutely none of it is CG. Everything was performed live, in one final take (although it took one hell of a lot beforehand to get it all working). Knowing this, and seeing the advert again, it all seems much more 'special'.

Recently SNK Playmore releases have been using the MVS-1a board, which combines the MVS cart with a JAMMA PCB - thus rendering those games JAMMA. Simply plug in the board and power up. This has so far been seen with SNK vs Capcom: Chaos, Metal Slug 5, and KOF 2003. Metal Slug 5 has also had an MVS cart release, and SVC Chaos is rumoured to be rereleased on MVS cart soon. Elite, Lemmings, even Doom and Quake... all games one can find on the classic Acorn home computers. Elite started out on the BBC Micro and to this date is an excellent game, while the port of Lemmings from the Amiga to Archimedes was nothing less than stellar. Shame the latter pair won't run on much less than a RISC PC, but I digress...

But the N64DD did come out. Well, in Japan, anyway. Quite a nice little add-on, although too little, too late really. It wasn't at all as successful as the Famicom Disc System, but some of the games released for it were promising - then again, some of the promised games weren't released, such as Ura Zelda.

  18. "Emulate"? on First Nintendo IQue Reviews · · Score: 5, Insightful

Sorry, but the IQue doesn't 'emulate' an N64. It is an N64, albiet one downsized into a controller and using flash cards instead of cartridges.

In response to other posts: yes, it is switchable to use PAL or NTSC - just solder the correct points on the PCB and you're away. Hopefully though, we won't need to - I would love to see these in shops outside China as a budget games solution, much like those Atari Controller-esque machines. Of course, with much better games...
