    It's exactly that type of attitude that will keep them from succeeding. They cannot continue to abuse their native population without reprecussion.

    Though I would like to think that's true, I'm reminded by that old cliche, "It's the economy, stupid.". As more Chinese approach middle class status(even if illusionary), the probability of revolution is greatly reduced. The ONLY reason that Bush, Blair, and Howard got re-elected is that the respective economies are perceived to be running very well. It had nothing to do with the war, or other insane foreign policy matters, or civil rights. In fact, has civil rights ever gotten anybody elected? It's all about the peoples' personal bank accounts. Bush is only tanking now because of gas prices. It seems that people are very tolerant of abuse as long as their wallet is feeling chubby, and of course, as long as the abuse isn't directed at them personally. They could care less what happens to their neighbors. In fact, they'll attach the electrodes themselves if it nets them an extra penny.

    The biggest single contribution to the fall of the Soviet Union was satellite TV and all those bootleg dishes. Well, that and their lousy economic condition.

    30 hour week - five six hour days.
    Minimum(!) 30 days vacation per year. Two weeks is stupid, and I consider it to be theft of my time.
    When discussing salary, make you're talking about what you net and other benefits that you actually see. If the amount is not on the check, then it doesn't exist. If they tell you otherwise, then they are lying.
    I would also suggest that there be a demand for good public transport. That alone would probably wipe out 90% of the road rage. Driving should be for vacations, not everyday commuting.
    Note that you won't see any of this without a united workforce speaking as one.
    Only then will you possibly see a return to sanity and good humor. Otherwise the anger and hate will just grow stronger.

    There most certainly is. Rad it sometime. It doesn't specify any restrictions on speech. In fact, it specifically prohibits any restriction. You know, the part that says, "...no law... No if, ands, or buts. And furthermore, it appears you need to have it spelled out for you, also. The crime, without exception, is in the action, no matter what motivates it. Unless, of course, you don't believe humans have a free will(not to act).

    It ain't over yet. If things go the way I believe they will, you'll have eight years of Jeb. And even worse, the only alternative you will leave for yourselves is, OMG!, Hillary. This leads to the question I've asked many times, Why do you always vote for the guy with the most bling? Are their unkept promises that enticing that you can't even think logically anymore? You'll never convince me that you don't have a choice because big money "bought" the election. You all sold it to them at bargain basement prices. Use the primaries to put in somebody completely different. And then see if the government will allow it. But if you don't make the effort, then I'm afraid I can't offer any sympathies. You have entered into a new dark age. Bring a flashlight.

    Not at all. The evil here is IP law and all that it encompasses. It's no different than speaking about Christianity and lumping it under religion.

    If you follow the news at all, then you have seen censorship done via IP law. In case you haven't figured it out by now, this is what IP law is about. This is its purpose. As for China, They want some of that WTO action. And they'll do anything to get it.

    Damn right! It's not true. Up until I saw this, I considered China to be rather progressive about IP law. But, alas, the triumph of currency rules over all. Now they're just part of the problem. The chains are getting tighter. It is attitudes like this that just takes away the remaining value of life on what is becoming a prison planet. Oh well, here's hoping that we find a way to neutralize the weapons of the prison guards. Very depressing indeed.

    Of course, you're still going to have to import a lot of food for a while, just to get the needed mass for efficient recycling.

    Why can't the whole process be mechanized? No humans needed until that critical mass is met. Hell, you could start with nano-bots, and let them build the whole thing. It might take a little longer, but it would help to avoid unnecessary risks.

    Well, let's see. There are many groups in America who won't lift a finger to criticize their government, no matter how atrocious it acts against others, yet they will attack those who demonstrate against the government as "un-American". I'm not sure what your point is. If it's a numbers game to you, then you won't convince me of anything.

    The only time that the CSA held a demonstration was right after the American air force accidentally bombed the Chinese embassy, killing 2 Chinese spies in Serbia. The spies were relaying telemetry to the Serbian military.

    So then, it wasn't an accident? Or was it?

    When people use bigotry as an excuse to commit force or fraud, it is the act itself which is the crime, and deserves punishment, not the motive behind it.

    That statement is even more correct if you leave out everything before that first comma. It is, without exception, the act itself which is the crime.

    I love all this talk about "incitement". The whole concept just demonstrates the admission that humans don't have a free will any more than a chimp. To rip off another poster in another thread. Speech is not action. It's that simple. It does not incite action. The actor made a free choice (if you believe in that) to act. I don't care what provokes him. Ultimately, he provoked his own self. And that's that.

    By now, you should realize that the authoritarian government in China exists for one reason: the majority of Chinese either support the authoritarian government or are indifferent to it.

    Hmmm...And we single out China. How could that possibly be when we could easily paint an identical picture in the "other" hemisphere? Strange that those people don't realize their hypocrisy. I guess that "eye for an eye" thing has already made them blind. Could it be that the intent of your post was to point that out a bit more subtly than I ever could? If it was, cool. If not, then I can't help but to ask the question.

    Monsanto is doing just that in a similar manner with their patented seeds. And after their poison contaminates...I mean cross pollinates with natural plants, everything will effectively be patented. And yes, replicators will be considered a "circumvention device" under present IP laws.

    That would just make things like indoctrination and brainwashing more difficult. In fact, the whole idea sounds subversive. You're not a subversive, are you? How do you expect the government to operate with absolute authority if people start asking questions, instead of blindly following their lead? Ignorance is power. An educated public is difficult, if not impossible to control. This decline is no accident.
