Since Google puts the videos up for not only download, but purchase as well, there may be legalities holding them back from letting the world see it just yet.

I can see why they wouldn't be happy, but to "angrily" rescind a charitable offer to a pretty beaten up city that needs anything it can get? Sounds like a bad PR event for BellSouth.
The music industry could profit immensely from using BT as a distribution source. Say I want to buy and download a movie for $10. Now, if we're using Bit Torrent, and I upload the whole movie to 10 other people, the movie industry could institute a "payback" plan for saving their bw by using mine. They could credit me say $1 for each complete movie I upload back. That would be a HUGE incentive to not only buy what the industry is putting out, but also to be a part of it.

You're missing the point. The idea of the TV and Movie industries is that you WON'T be able to tape anything without a proper broadcast flag... So your current devices won't be able to decode the signals, effectively making them useless.

You're forgetting about college students. At my university, engineering majors are REQUIRED to have a laptop. So instead of buying a laptop and a desktop, save a few bucks and combine em.
I use Paragon Hard Disk Manager. Does a few things more than just copy images but seems to work with copying XP (at least I haven't had any problems). Granted, I'm only a home user, but maybe this could work for you.
