PlanetSide has virtually no griefing. The system punishes it fairly well and the other players even more so. The main annoyances in PS are hackers and sometimes low populations.

Plus, it has no player trade (no virtual currency to buy, nothing to farm), it is pure PvP, shallow power curve (noobs can go toe to to with vets), fosters team play (but does not require it), has virtually no grinding, the battles can be 130 vs. 130 vs. 130 on maps that are several Km square (they make Battlefield 1942 maps look tiny).

i've rewritten the summary without the awful passive voice.

"The avatar known as Buzz Erik Lightyear set a new world record price paid for virtual property. Buzz won the space station Crystal Palace in the auction system of the Entropia Universe for the incredible amount of $330,000. The Entropia community regards Buzz as one of the best crafters in the game. They've even made Chuck Norris Facts like jokes about what he can achieve."

Subby, start the sentence with who or what is doing the action. The original version was 88 words. Mine is 65. Proper word order reduces grammatical gymnastics. It's also more HONEST. Watch the news for speeches where politicians use passive voice to distance themselves from their actions. "Measures have been taken", "mistakes were made". As if these things happened by themselves.

Dismiss me as a grammar nazi if you like. Willful ignorance is certainly easier than constructing direct and concise sentences. Most 6th graders can get words in the correct order. Not sure what subby's problem is.

And yes, i'm bored. It's the last day of the work year before a 4 day weekend. And no, i won't be reading the excuses you make for him.

What does sync mean in this context?

So they are making the drives faster in the sense that there are fewer sectors, so it's easier to get to a city than to a particular block of a city. They are also keeping the address space small. And they are wasting space because most of the blocks of the city have huge yards and a tiny house.

Actually that first sentence should be a question. Does having bigger sectors make the drive appear to be faster?

    Fascinating.

    Got it.

With the 1024 byte example, could the address just be "from bit X to bit X+1023"? i guess that too would be too much. All those tiny .dlls and .inis would take more space to define than they actually take.

    Thanks!

    +1 Informative.

So why have the sectors at all? Bigger sectors seem to incur more waste, though with HDDs growing at the rate they do it might not matter. But if there was no sectoring, then a file could take as much space, and only as much space as it actually needs. The 1024 byte file could then take 1024 bytes.

i'm not saying sectors aren't needed, i just don't understand why they exist in the first place.

It is it some kind of addressing thing?
