I love Kaufman and I love Norm, and Norm loves Kaufman. He even has a bit part in the film. You don't have to 'get' Kaufman. He's just a guy who lived life the way he wanted and didn't let society or 'influential' people beat him into submission.
Friend of mine picked up a bootleg of it at a con, and its quite possibly the most horrible thing ever. Chewbacca's dad's name is ITCHY. He puts on a virtual reality helmet and watches a jefferson starship video.
Miramax has not released a professional sub of Mononoke yet, but it is a definate possibility once it gets released on video. Kiki's Delivery Service, another Miyazaki movie that Disney bought the rights to, has been released in an excellent subtitled version. I highly recommend you see the dub that is in theatres now. There is such an amazing difference between seeing a bootlegged fansubbed videotape of a movie than seeing it on a big screen, on actual movie film, the way it was meant to be seen. And unlike a lot of dubs, this one is very well done.
I disagree with the phrase 'nothing stupendous' because personally, I think its one of the most best movies I've ever seen. This is truly a groundbreaking film, and it could be the one to open up Americans minds to the possibilites inherent in animation, that are being so sorely neglected by the likes of disney and their imitators. Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars, check out his excellent review of it at http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert1/mono29f.html
"Mr. Adams says his artistic talent is pretty limited in several of his books"
Yes, his artistic talent is limited. He is no Bill Watterson, which is why he has chosen such a simplistic style. If you look at the early Dilbert strips, you can see how poorly he started out, but he recognized his strengths and weaknesses came up better for it. Admittedly, taking stabs at Illiad's ability as an artist is only semi-relevant, when the issue is his unfunniness, but for me its just another reason to hate User Friendly.
So you're not just an asshole, you're a prejudiced asshole
Apparently this whole 'humor' thing is a stretch for you. I guess thats why you're such a 'UFie'
Hey, if you don't like the strip, then don't fucking read it!
It's too late for that. After its greatness was expounded upon in various geeky forums, I decided to check it out.
The scars are still there, and I'm still bitter, and I'll complain all I damn well please. If I see a bad movie, I have a perfect right to complain about how bad it was. I have to confess though, I am partly at fault "Maybe it'll get better, maybe he just had a rocky start" but no, as I clicked through each horrific strip in the archive, the nightmare only grew, and by the time I had realized it was NEVER going to get better, I was irrevocably damaged.
In conclusion, people need to be warned about how bad User Friendly is. Maybe they can avoid the pain so many have been subjected to.
Dilbert and user friendly are similair only in the sense that they have something to do with technology, and that Illiad stole the boss' haircut. Scott Adams actually can actually draw, and has a sense of pacing. Illiad just namedrops alternative OS's and makes half-hearted stabs at microsoft and stupid users. Another post claimed that User Friendly was not painfully unfunny. I disagree. Verily, its unfunniness stabs at me from the depths of hell. Or possibly canada.
Way to go Jon Katz. You know not the slightest bit about the game industry (as evidenced by your repeated claim that this is the first christian computer game) and then you proceed to make sweeping predictions about how this will change everything. Much like all your other articles.
They can all be pretty much summed up like this: 1. Jon Katz brings up a topic he is clueless about, 2. Jon Katz blathers on about said topic, and 3. Jon Katz proclaims that this development will irrevocably change the world.
Thanks Jon, but somehow I don't think the introduction of yet another poorly produced christian game will lead to "an Armageddon-like battle".
I think what happened is that he grew up. I had that sort of attitude change around when I was 17 years old. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed this sort of shift?
heh, thats a horrible example of "why ratings don't work" its not an example of that at all! it says absolutely nothing about ratings! all it shows is that people are stupid, and everyone knows that already.
i wish people would stop pointing that out and acting like they've discovered some hilarious folly on the part of banks. the cost of having two different types of ATMs would far outweigh the tiny savings in materials.
if by "we" you mean "cynical wankers who get their opinions from other cynical wankers on the internet and were hating jar jar before the movie even came out" then yes, you all hate jar jar. regular people, however, seem to have this habit of forming their own opinions on things, and most of them don't think jar jar is all that bad. also, if you're going to joke about killing people, try to at least be funny.

He said it was the only fair system. Not that it was the system currently in place. I agree.
in terms of movies, try the iron giant. excellent for children and adults.
