Forget the DVD's, use your broadband connection and an online backup provider like Mozy https://mozy.com/?code=2APNT1/ . I like mozy because it is free for 2mb and 30gb costs only 4.95/mo. By the time you deal with swapping blank DVD's and pay for blanks the cost is about the same.
Full Disclosure, I do not work for Mozy, I saw a review in PC Magazine that rated them quite high so I thought I would try them out. The above link is a referral link. For those of you who don't like that, edit the URL.
The APC environmental monitor AP9319 does a nice job of monitoring temp and humidity. I added the second sensor to monitor both under floor temp and room temp. In addition the unit has dry contact inputs which I connected to a waterbug leak detector. I like the apc unit since it is self contained and has a built in webserver and supports SNMP. It also will email alerts directly from the monitor. I have been sucessful in integrating the SNMP output using cacti go graph temperature trends in our data centers and telcom room.
Another choice would be Weatherpulse from Tropic Designs. No ads and it also gets it's updates from the Weather Channel

Maybe this is the solution for the sports teams that now want to be a cable network also. The Victory Sports network, which is owned by the Minnesota Twins is demanding that it's content be carried on the basic tier at $3.00/user and is refusing to be carried in a premium sports tier. Their reasoning is that they need the largest audience for their advertising. I think this sucks I don't want $3.00 of my money going to the Twins since I will never watch a game. Put all the sports network in a sports tier and let the sports fans support them instead.
I think the big wake up call should be the fact that Big Pharma is spending more on marketing their drugs than on developing them in the first place.
I have been testing ssl explorer on windows and linux and the community edition works quite well. http://3sp.com/showSslExplorerCommunity.do?referre r=sslexplorer/

Skype has a pocketpc version of the Voip softphone. Works great on my Axim X5
I have not actually used this, but I saw it recommended somewhere http://www.roomarranger.com/ It is shareware now, but the older version is freeware.
