  1. Update failed on Some Early Adopters Stung By Ubuntu's Karmic Koala · · Score: 1

I tried to update from 9.4 to 9.10 but after 5 hours the update stopped responding, in fact the whole PC froze. I had to hard boot the PC, and the update was not complete the entire install was hosed. Luckily this was just a test system and I didn't lose any thing important, but if it was my main system I would have been rather upset. I have gotten into the habit of backing up all of my personal files to a removable drive when I do these upgrades just in case

I think the point is the length of the copyright. I agree that copyright is needed to protect peoples ideas and inventions, but after the creator/inventor is dead should the copyright still be in place? I believe the point was the length of the copyright, not copyright itself.

It's called usability testing, and many places will do this with test groups and users. Most of these users have no prior knowledge about the product so they are not biased in their expectations. Some companies will even have the users use a product were the engineer/developer can watch but not interact, think one way mirror.

Look into QA/Test work. Your CS degree gives you the technical knowledge and your support work gives you a user perspective. Not only can you work with a design team from a technical stand point, but you can also give them feed back on how the user might do things. This is a good combination for QA, it allows you to think outside of the box when you approach a problem.

I have a degree in security. I have spent numerous years doing support, keeping machines running and working in a data center. I finally broke down and got a degree, and instead of getting a general IT degree, I went for an IT degree in security. IT is such a large field that trying to say IT is just this, that or the other isn't fair. I realized that and focused in on security, something that isn't specific to support, keeping machines running or working in a data center.
